IIT Kanpur - Indian Institute of Technology

Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IITK)is one of the most premier institutes in India. Its NIRF ranking is #4 in Engineering and #6 in the Overall category in 2020. It is ranked 291 in QS World Ranking for 2020. IIT Kanpur BTech (8 courses) and BS (4 courses) admission is offered based on the candidate's Rank in JEE Advanced followed by JoSAA counseling. JEE Advanced Results declared on 5th October 2020, JoSAA counseling Round 1 results declared 17th October and I got the seat in the first round itself. Everything is good here, Infrastructure, Faculty, Placements, Academics, Alumni Base, Sports Facilities and the list goes on. You name it and they have it! The academic is very lenient although it's a bit hectic.

I opted for this course because I found the course curriculum interesting. Subjects like Field Geology, Atmospheric Science, River Science brought my attraction to take up this course. The faculty-student ratio here is 1:12. The faculty members are very helpful and they help students in whatever ways they can. 100% of the faculty members here are PhD holders. Their teaching process is also very good. They make the students understand the concepts. Students also find interest to learn the subjects. There are a lot of exams to pass a course. Quizzes are taken very frequently, more or less once in two weeks. There are two major exams- Mid Semester exam and the End Semester exam. Question papers are set with good quality questions. One has to study very well to score well in the exams.

Students generally go for internships in the 5th/6th semester. However, someone can get an internship in the 2nd/3rd semester also. Almost a hundred percent of students got summer internships in various companies like Mphasis, NGI Ventures, and most startups. They stipend to get a good stipend varying from 15,000 to 60,000 per month.

On-Campus Placements are very good. Students go for internships in the 5th / 6th semester. Many convert those internships to PPOs (Pre Placement Offers). Then students sit for campus placements in the 7th semester. In 2019, 469 students were eligible for placement and 437 students were placed with a placement percentage of 93.17%. The median Salary offered to students was 15 Lpa (Lakhs per annum). The highest package offered was 1.47 Crores (international package). Some of the companies visited are Amazon, Facebook, Mastercard, VISA, HSBC, Accenture, Flipkart, Myntra, Bajaj, Rolls Royce, etc. I will also sit for placements after getting the degree.

The Fee structure per semester is like this: Semester Fees: 103550.00 Hostel Charges: 12700.00 One Time payable (non-refundable): 2950.00 One Time payable (refundable): 17000.00 There is no price hike in the last few years. There are a lot of scholarships for the students. E.g. Merit-cum-means scholarship, INSPIRE scholarship, Free Basic Mess scholarship, Sports scholarship, etc.

There are 3 fests organized by IITK: 1. Antaragni- annual cultural festival. It entertains a footfall of over 130,000 to provide a highly competitive national-level platform and host concerts of artists with international repute. 2. Techkriti- annual Technical and Entrepreneurship festival, held each March. 3. Udghosh- annual sports meet of IITK. PK Kelker Library is an academic library with a collection of more than 3,00,000 volumes and subscriptions to more than 1000 periodicals. The classrooms are well equipped with modern infrastructure. The lecture halls are centrally air-conditioned. The institute has sports facilities that include 2 cricket grounds, 1 for football and 1 for hockey. There are courts for volleyball, basketball, lawn tennis, badminton. It has also indoor sports facilities like TT, squash, etc. IITK also has an Olympic size swimming pool. Gymkhana is the student body. There is 3 council under it: MMC, SnT &GnS. These councils have clubs run by students themselves
