Remarks

I attended Jamia Millia Islamia because of the reputation that this institute bears, and the long list of alumni that have had successful careers after passing out from Jamia. Even the faculty in the Mass Communication department is well experienced and has worked in the required fields which helps during the classes, and helps students get a grasp of the realities of the industry. The admission process was a 3-step process. The first step included applying for the college, then for the second step, there was a written test, which contained some General questions and some course-oriented ones. The third step was the personal interview, where one has to present their work portfolio if any. The entire process takes place over a month, and then the results are produced on Jamia's website. I would once again want to reiterate that I chose Jamia because of its amazing blend of practical and theoretical knowledge, and the availability of such great faculty.

Course Curriculum Overview

5

The course curriculum is more practical than theoretical to provide students exposure to how the real world works and how they can succeed in their careers after they get out of college. The presence of practical knowledge was my main reason behind choosing the college. And, when it comes to faculty, there are 5-6 faculties for a class of 54 students. All the faculty members are highly qualified and have good experience in the field as well. The faculties have even worked in the film and news industry, so that experience comes in handy during the classes. And, the faculties like to draw from their own experiences and then incorporate them into their teachings. They always prefer practical knowledge over theory. The semester exams took place every 5-6 months, however, class tests were held twice each semester. The exams were not difficult to pass, as everything was taught practically and questions came in exams related to that, so it was easy to answer them.

Placement Experience

3.5

The students become eligible for placement from the third semester, and the companies start visiting from that time. Companies such as Viacom, Adfactor, Shareit, etc visit the college. The highest package is from Viacom which is 5.5 lacs per annum and the average package is 4 lacs per month. Almost 40% of students get placed through college, but the name of college helps in getting outside job offers as well.

Fees and Financial Aid

The fee was affordable compared to other institutes, and the fee for the second year was actually less compared to the first year. It was less than other institutes providing the same courses. And, students weren't required to pay anything extra apart from their exam fee.

Campus Life

4.5

There is no annual or tech fest, however, there are several clubs that the students can join, like the drama club, debate club, etc, and the students can join all these at their convenience. And, the libraries were all equipped with great books and journals, along with computers for research. Even the classrooms were equipped with all the required equipment, and the overall experience was very good.

Interview Experience

4

There was a personal interview for the selection process. The questions were asked related to the candidate's hobbies, educational background, future goals, and the reason to opt for Jamia Millia Islamia. They were even interested in the candidate's cultural backgrounds. Some questions were related to the work portfolios. The candidates had to score the set marks to qualify for the selection. I prepared for the rounds by going through several newspapers for general knowledge and connecting with passed out students over Facebook.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I have always held that the training I recieved during my masters programme prepared the grounds for my future development. The teaching pedagogy was centres around participation and a two way dialogue. I am not in the capacity to be suggesting improvements in curriculum as my stint in the university was almost perfect- more than I could have ever asked for.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course curriculum is well designed by the renowned professors and faculty members from different universities in India and from abroad as well. The content was choosen keeping in mind to cover all the aspects of the specific subject for a pg student. As I mentioned before, the quality of study material was very good and helpful and very enough. But the pg thesis is missing from our course, due to which we were not able to do a research project. It appears to me after the completion of my first year that we can do our research under our given faculty but it wasn't mentioned in the course structure as it is mainly upto our faculties.

Course Curriculum Overview:

For the course i must say that this is something everyone needs to study about even if it's for just a part. We have ethics, moral, cultural relativism and etc. In our syllabus and it all really help to make our thinking rational, to see World from that point of view from where one can see the clarity. It's really necessary for improvement in personality and making good decision. I think there's need for making this course more practical like teaching, we can teach students about essentials of philosophy for there betterment of decision making from an early age.
