Remarks

Only Central University in Jammu which provides Masters in Mass communication and New media. My HOD was highly professional and knowledgeable. Overall good faculty. Environment is very good. Except transport and hostel everything is good. Outside students may face problems related to transport and hostel.

Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

There is dearth of equipments. The faculty is good. Students should apply for internships from the beginning of course as making space in media is not easy as it appears specially in print and radio. Faculty is highly qualified. Most of the professors are from JNU and Jamia. And are internationally published. If you will interact well surely you would learn a lot. The university is very new so may be with time the infrastructure would improve.

Internships Opportunities

Yes. I freelnaced for newspapers like Kashmir Times. I wrote editorials and features for Kashmir times and Excelsior. Also I did pnternship with a media house called newslaundry. Company paid me my internet bills, provide free subscriptions to different media outlets, also I was free to attend media festivals organised by newslaundry. 3k stipend was given fir the work i did fir newslaundry as an research intern. My job was to research on gender sensitivity in news rooms of India. I worked on news archives and news debates.

Placement Experience

0.5

MBA students generally are first choice of companies. Amidst pandemic 3-4 students got a good package. 70k per month in Byjus. Somr students got placed in private banks like Axis bank. You can check the official list of selected students of CUJ website. Mass communication students in 2020 didn't get placements but in past students were placed in ETV bharat with starting salary 19k. In mass communication and MBA internships arr important. Both courses encourage internship in last semester due to corona internships were impacted.

College Events

Social life is good. People are very friendly. Classrooms are very clean. There are annual fests like "Uddan". There is NCC volunteers. Social work department of university is one of the nest department. Environmental science department is very active in environment conservation, plantations etc. Hindi department have exceptional poets. I have personally enjoyed Hindi conferences. There is a magazine too published by Hindi department amd mass communication department. Also there are frequent guest lecturers in every department. Mass communication department also invites very talented guest lecturers. English department runs a literary club. 3 students from each department are members of this literary club. Students of University also conduct poetry, singing and modeling competitions. But the activities are not frequent.

Campus Life

3.5

Sports facilities are poor. Except table tennis everything is poor. Science labs are still developing but definitely in better position than Sports infrastructure. Wi-Fi is good but its Jammu and Kashmir so bans are frequent.

Hostel Facilities

2.5

Hostel facilities are poor. I would suggest to take accomodation in nearby village. As the campus is ruler. You would easily get accomodation from rupees 500 to 5k. Villagers are conservative so i suggest to not offend them unnecessarily as they look up to University students as their idols. Also you can teach their children. If you want to stay nesr market then choose Jammu city or greater Kailash or Sainik colony. Here too you will get accomodation from 1k to 5k.
