Remarks
It's a good college overall, majorly for people who have work experience in the range of 3-4 years. It is more about what your aspirations are and what do you expect from your mba great lakes pgpm, thought theoretically is not equivalent to mba but indus
Entrance Preview
I took GMAT and scored 640. Applied and got through gmat. i had over two and a half years of work experience before i applied. It made more sense to me to go for a one year course and in india, after isb hyderabad, great lakes is your best bet to pursue mba for people with work experience in the range of 2-3 years.hence, one year course and decent placement figures helped me zero in on great lakes.
Course Curriculum Overview
Course curriculum is pretty decent. after initial three terms of core courses, electives present a wide array of choices according to different majors (focus streams like marketing, operations etc.). I majored in marketing. some of the courses like marketing research are quite research oriented where in students are exposed to various market research tools and techniques. Apart from such courses, there is a full time, year long empirical study research project wherein students have to select a topic of their choice and conduct thorough research to justify, negate or substantiate their hypothesis in my view, this project really helped me to understand some of the nuances of market research and business analytics. even in my job, i am doing a similar kind of work.
Internships Opportunities
Since my course was a one year one, internships as such don't exist. There are industry projects - both paid and unpaid ones. Then there are online portals from where we used to get projects. Experience was good.
Placement Experience
Great lakes has decent placement figures for all of its full time courses. Ours, pgpm, is the flagship course at great lakes. Average compensation offered for our batch of 2014-2015 was 12.02 lakhs per annum and median was 11.50 lakhs per annum. One thing though is packages vary according to relevant work experience. all of the students participating in the placements - 371 of them had offers. major recruiters were accenture, airtel, cognizant, deloitte, dell, genpact, dunia finance, hcl, kpmg, musigma, snapdeal, tcs, universal consulting, wipro, zs associates. amazon made the highest offer with a ctc of 51 lakhs per annum. ctc offered by amazon had components like esops, stock options etc. major domains in which offers were made belonged to it/ites, consulting, e-commerce, analytics, telecom, financial services, manufacturing etc. detailed placement report can be viewed on great lakes website. as an alumna, i can say the stats are correct.
College Events
A plethora of events are celebrated in great lakes. The annual fest is lattitude 13
Fee Structure And Facilities
This is becoming one pain point as the years go by for my batch the total fee was 16.07 lakhs for one year course. It went to 16.7 lakhs for one year course this year (batch 2015-2016) and it is on increase for prospective students. Though it is quite high but even top iims are charging similar fee, although for a two year course in short, it is expensive.
Fees and Financial Aid
No scholarship great lakes has education loan tie ups with avanse financial services and hdfc credila although a few other banks like axis bank also sanction education loans to students.
Campus Life
Campus life is pretty happening with easy access to the coastal town of mahabalipuram for quick getaways. Gender ratio is 4(males):1(female). students from across the nation come to great lakes which makes for an eclectic mix of students. A lot of extra curricular activities happen on the campus. these activities are usually associated with clubs and committees on campus.
Hostel Facilities
Hostel facility is awesome majorly single rooms for one year course students with air conditioning (ac) in all rooms. Some of the one year course students do get double sharing rooms but those are really spacious and good. Although, rest rooms tend to be
Alumni/Alumna
Alumni network and senior students have been quite helpful be it in helping prospective students in deciding which courses to take or job opportunities.
Exam Structure
Oh, it was totally hectic. it's a one year course and bound to be hectic. we had quizzes, mid terms, end terms, assignments, case studies and what not, all packed in a short duration of one year. But it was enjoyable also. exams had a mix of objective an
Faculty
Faculty is top notch except for a few not so great ones. Most of the faculty has international exposure and the dynamics, thought processes and experiences that they bring to the class are really amazing. I specially enjoyed strategy courses. one of fine
