Remarks
Great reputation, brand name, incredibly good placement offers in the biggest companies. Considered to be one of, if not the premier institutions in India. I am the only child in my generation in the family that performed well in the science stream. So having cleared the entrance examination I naturally wished to take it a step further and become a part of the educational saga that is IIT. The first impression has been... Intimidating,to say the least. If JEE advanced had fierce competition, this is a lot worse. Especially because it's first year, where the specialization via branch hasn't happened yet. So it's the same playing ground with the same players, and there's very little scope to improve your relative position in the country's most intellectual lot of students. I don't remember much of the admission process and dates... First two weeks of October and a huge wad of forms that are being verified via mail even today XD. A lot has happened since then, for better or for worse.
Course Curriculum Overview
My dream in seventh grade was to become an engineer like my father. When I asked him which branch he thought would suit me the most, he thought it over and said Chemical Engineering would suit me a lot. I took that to heart and made it my dream. The faculty in the first year is great overall, it's just that a lot of content in certain courses is the same material being taught 30-40 years ago and there seems to be a disconnect with the present requirement and relevance of the course. A lot of the courses are prerequisites for future courses. Depending on the course, there's either a quiz every week or twice in two months. All of which are counted in your aggregate. Term exams are difficult, but that is to be expected. They're not going to give out marks for free. The TAs can definitely be more lenient in their grading of assignments and quizzes - a disparity could be seen in the marks of students who wrote nearly identical answers.
Internships Opportunities
There are a lot of internship opportunities, a wide variety that range from business to entrepreneurship, marketing to management, software development to web design. Students are advised to pursue internships based on juggling their core branch and personal interests.
Placement Experience
Only the top 15% seem to get packages in the lakhs. The rest are offered less, but have wider availability of options considering the PSUs. Personally I wish to join a petrochemical or steel based company and put my degree to practical use.
Fees and Financial Aid
It's a well laid out fee structure, mentioned very clearly and in detail in the fee structure document of the institution. Probably available online. Considering the pandemic, we are not on campus and therefore do not have any idea about campus jobs and financial assistance that may or may not be available.
Campus Life
Rendezvous, Kaizen, etc are just some common names of the many cultural events held at IITD. I'm part of the Music Club, and am a volunteer in the Blood Connect Foundation, IITD. NSS hours are not a problem, especially with enough projects and competitions being conducted regularly.
Hostel Facilities
Never been to my hostel because of the pandemic. The minimum character limit is practically inviting me to rant upon this particular sore topic, but I'm going to exercise some surprising self control and skip that.
Other Applied Colleges
St. Stephen's College, Lady SriRam College | BA Hons Maths
JEE results were announced, changed my options.
