Overview of the student's experience

Parul University is one of the India's top learning institutions, situated in the cultural capital of Gujarat, Vadodara. Even though the main city is 20 minutes away from the campus, it is leashed with every single facility a university should have. Moreover the public transport facility is available all the time with city buses running through the route on an hourly basis. The admission process is very smooth. When a candidate arrives at the university for the admission, they are immediately guided by a counselor and within in around two hours the process is completed. The reason I think this university is ideal for my studies is that not only the faculties here are highly active and supportive in terms of academics and co-curricular activities but also the university supports in developing entrepreneurial skills and boost student startups along with the usual placement trainings. The university has a very detailed website which can be used for any kind of reference.

The course I chose is B.tech in computer science as I've always been keen on learning computers. The university has labs and classrooms with fully functional projectors in each classrooms. A dedicated reading room is provided for the students who wishes to do self study on campus after the official class hours. There are approximately 50 students in each classrooms which is further divided into 3 equal batches for the hands-on training during lab sessions. There are more than 2 faculties provided to each class for each subject who are well qualified with a masters degree and PhD in their chosen subjects. A weekly assessment is conducted to know the depth of knowledge of the students. The mid term and end term exams are from 6 and 12 weeks from the start of the semester. Thanks to the weekly assessment, exams and assignments provided by the facilities, the concepts of the students are so clear that passing the exams seems like a piece of a cake.

The university provides constant updates through email regarding the upcoming and ongoing internships. The faculty members encourages the students to do as many internships as possible as it will not only look good on the resume but would also provide industry exposure. Small and large companies provides paid (from 3000 to 15000) and unpaid internships. Although, one should have the basic programming skills and the knowledge of the recent software being used for the development.

The students get the placement training like aptitude test, GD and personal interviews from as early as 2nd year of their college. This is to ensure that each and every student is mentally and physically ready for the placements and maximum number of seats can be acquired by the students of Parul University. The training gets intense and detailed with each passing semester focusing on the areas the students are weak on. In the final year, the students starts getting mails related to which company is coming on-campus or for the online meeting. Companies like Microsoft and TCS also comes in the university and students can easily apply to appear with a formal resume.

A student's fee depends on various factors which can be from 20 thousand to 1 lakh. Being a private institution the fees is pretty nominal compared to the facilities provided. One can avail various scholarships like MYSY through the university based on their percentage and marks obtained in their previous school and college. The university also provides on-campus jobs and internships from counselors to assistant professors, paid (up to 10,000) and unpaid depending upon the position. There are also student exchange programs and abroad internships. Furthermore, there is an entrepreneurship development cell at the university for the students who wishes to start their own startup and the students who are already associated with one. All in all, Parul University supports its students in every aspect just one should be willing to avail it.

The on-campus life of student is astonishing. There is an annual fest "Dhoom" in which their are multiple contests, activities like dance, singing and open mic. Other than this, there is Hackathon for computer students for the ones who are interested in programming, Projections for robotic models and many such activities. Parul's library is pretty massive and books of all variants and fields including novels can be found there. Now, the books can be availed at our doorsteps too due to the pandemic which I think is pretty amazing facility. Each classroom is equipped with projectors, blackboard and benches, and charging sockets on every bench. Other than this university pays a huge attention on sports and extra curricular activities like football, cricket and chess. Also, there are different clubs for different departments like error club for PIT which organizes seminars, manages events and one can become a part of it very easily after an interview.

I am a local person, hence, I do not reside in any of the hostels or PG. Although, I have friends who are living on campus and the details below are there experiences. The hostel rooms are well furnished with a dedicated bed, wardrobe and a study table. There are also AC rooms available. The cost can be from around 40,000 to 65,000. The food that is provided is of good quality and there is a weekly menu. For registration of the hostel rooms, one should contact the concerned department at the university whose number can be easily found on the university's website. There are also students living in PGs which can be around 2000 to 3000 per month in the waghodia area with shared rooms.

There can or cannot be a group discussion, interview or written test depending on the field a student is applying for. In my case, I did not have to undergo any kind of GD or written examination. Although, as far as the interview is concerned, they just ask the basic questions like why do you want to join this university. Why this particular course. Do you have any previous knowledge of this field. These were in general and the counselor was very friendly. Personally, I did not do any kind of preparation for the interview. But most importantly, one should carry all the necessary documents required for the admission.
