Scottish Church College scores in discipline and cultural diversity above all else. The sense of tolerance that is embedded inside every student makes it easy for others to survive and flourish. The faculty is unmatched and very supportive irrespective of any compartmentalisation and otherwise. One area where really less focus is made in the classroom to office transition. The placement cell is not that active and robust to upskill the students or prepare them for future endeavours. The admission process is performance-based and commences right after the publication of school leaving examination results of the major boards in the country. The process involves the elimination and selection of worthy candidates across multiple rounds, mostly basing on their marks and not merits. I personally chose this college for my undergraduates given its quality and student-friendly ambience. The rich heritage and the values it upholds were the other factors that led me to choose Scottish Church.

I opted for the Bachelor of Science in Economics with an Honours for the ingrained quantitative and empirical flavour of the programme. Mathematics and statistics are two subjects I really enjoy and these have been the perfect tools to study a subject like economics. The practical side and realistic outlook of the disciple drew me closer to the domain. The faculty-student ratio is maintained at approximate 4:50 or 2:25. All the professors in our department are M. Phil.s and PhDs with experience spanning over two decades. The term exams are conducted at the end of every semester of six months, as per the CBCS (choice based credit system) guidelines and are moderate to difficult in the level of difficulty. With rigorous and intense preparation, they are really easy to pass and pass with flying colours.

Placements usher in from semester five or the third year in the undergraduate programme. Companies who make visits and proceed with campus hiring drives include Amazon, Archetive Solutions, Byju's, Erudite, ICICI Prudential Life Insurance, Kotak Mahindra Life Insurance and Wipro among the rest. Placement rates are not very high, with an average of thirty three to thirty six percent. I wish to pursue a Master of Science in any core quantitative area of economics after my Bachelor's.

There is no pronounced fee hike policy as such. Though there have been a few welfares and scholarship schemes in the second and the third years of the programme, the vacancies were really less and not all of the applicants could avail of the benefits endorsed. There have been covers like travel cost covers and also, financial assistance given to EWS students since their admission. We had in our class a few students who were admitted under the sports quota.

There is Caledonia, the annual college festival that is generally conducted in the early weeks of January every year. Science fairs are conducted usually in the fall and with full support from the departments participating in them. Apart from these, the college is witness to multiple functions and awareness weeks across communications and cultures. The library is well maintained and has a boastful collection of manuscripts, books and journals, all under easy access to students and teaching staffs. The classrooms are of English Palladianism and Portuguese build and offer ample space and air. The college functions sports teams and has dedicated cricket, football, tennis, table tennis and swimming teams apart from individual athletics. The students are organised into various activity clubs that are responsible for conducting extracurricular events all throughout the year.
