Life at SXC, Kolkata

I had applied to two colleges - St. Xavier's College (Autonomous), Kolkata and J.D.Birla Institute, Kolkata. The admission process for SXC involved an entrance test of 50 marks. With a combination of the marks achieved in the entrance and the percentage achieved in 10+2 board examinations, the cut-off lists were announced, post which the list of candidates selected for the personal interview was rolled out. The PI was then conducted as per the schedule and the admission process was completed on the very day. For JDBI, only the personal interview was conducted post which the admission lists were rolled out.

The course curriculum was a revised and updated version of the general BBA course. Under the new guidelines of UGC, the course was designed with an updated syllabus as BMS. The faculty for BMS is highly experienced at SXC, Kolkata. The total batch size for BMS stands at 140 students, approximately. There are roughly 10 teachers allotted for a particular year. There are 2 semesters every year. Examinations were held twice every semester- CIA (midterms) and finals.

Internships are open and made accessible to students of all years. The information is available on the college website and the official Facebook page of the placement cell of the college. The companies belong to diverse industrial fields and opportunities.

The placement process is fairly smooth at SXC. The companies list coming for recruitment are regularly updated. There are on-campus and off-campus interview conducted and are mentioned beforehand. The students belonging to the final semester are eligible for placements.

During the first year of my undergraduate, the fee structure was different. Second-year onwards, there was a sudden hike in the fee structure. After consulting with the students and the parents, the fee structure was again revised and lowered, comparatively. The placement cell of the college constantly brings up internships for all year students via the official Facebook page of the placement cell and the college website. For job opportunities, only the final year students are eligible and are approached physically with on-campus and off-campus interviews.

The college is highly active in terms of extracurricular activities. There are a variety of clubs and societies and the college takes part in a large number of college fests. The annual cultural fest at SXC is Xavotsav, conducted in January, every year. The college is spread across a large area and hold a variety of books. It can be easily accessed for in-house reading or for borrowing purpose. The college campus is spread across a large area. The infrastructure is fairly good. The classroom is equipped with all necessary facilities like AC, projector with the display. There are two college canteens and a stationery shop accessible to students.

On applying for the course, everybody ad to sit for an entrance test that comprised of questions from maths, English and lrdi. The next step was shortlisted for the personal interview. The criteria was (50% of 10+2 boards percentage) + (50% of entrance test) = net score achieved. The shortlisted candidates were called for the personal interview and the admission process was completed on the very day itself.
