SMU Majitar Alumni

I am a resident of sikkim and SMU is recognized as the best college here in my place. It has two campuses, one in gangtok and one in Magitar. BBA courses are offered in Magitar. For the admission, I applied from the college office. It is also available online and the cost of the application fee is Rs 1000. The seats are all based on merit. A minimum of 50% in class 12 result is the criteria. It also has a personal interview in which basic questions like why do you want to study here? or why did you opt for this course was asked to me.

i chose to study BBA because of the job opportunities it provides. In it i was taught about business economics, Marketing , Business law and also introduction to sociology. It was a three year course with 6 faculty professors to conduct our classed. They had an industry experience of about minimum 5 to 10 years. We had two assistant professors, with the rest being all professors and phd holders. The ratio was 1:15 and we had internal semester as well as external. Our course consisted of assignments as well and it was added in our external exam. This was very helpful to score well.

We had summer internships and if we did well in it, our job was confirmed right after college. Placements are offered during the final year with visiting companies like Tommy Hilfiger, H&M, banking companies like ICICI and HDFC also visit the campus for recruitment. The average package starts with 1.5 lakhs p.a.

For a local resident like me the total fee was Rs 1,92,300 and for non- sikkimese residents the total fee was 384,000. It was to be paid semester basis and no fee hikes were included. SMU provides scholarships as well. It is based on merit and need based. The government of Sikkim also provides scholarships to us local citizens.

Life at campus is amazing. We have halloween parties. It is so fun where we used to cosplay and used to have socials. There was a three day college fest named as Kalraav fest. This was the best part of my college life. colleges from parts of India took part in it and there were competitive events like dance, music, fashion and band shows in it. The campus also has indoor basketball courts, a football field and also a nice swimming pool for us.
