Remarks
I had applied for colleges like CBIT, Vasavi, Manipal, etc. Although I had to rule out Manipal because of its high fee and I wanted to join CBIT. However, I had to go for Vasavi because my folks thought it's somehow better than CBIT. I did not get any quota nor did I need it, my TSEAMCET rank was 2400. The criteria change every year for students joining through the convener quota (TSEAMCET). You can also join with your JEE Main marks. The admission process was pretty bad, thanks to CoViD. Had to travel multiple times to college which is 30 km from where I live.
Course Curriculum Overview
I opted for Computer Science and Engineering with a specialization in AI & ML. However, looking at the curriculum would make it hard to believe since I had to do Electronics, Chemistry, and Mechanics in the first year WITH LAB. Some people might say it's common for everyone but no, I beg to disagree. None of my teachers can convince me that these subjects are in any way useful to me, let alone my career. Not only that, but my course is specialized in AI & ML and I don't see anything closely related to that in my current curriculum. The introduction of this course might as well be a hoax as the college gained 60 extra students in the name of AI&ML but never really changed the curriculum. In each class there are 60 students and obviously, you will find faculty who are experienced (some even 15 years). The exams though. The internals was conducted in a haste if you ask me. 6 subjects, 3 days with 2 exams per day all while we had labs and no time to prepare. The exams are obviously rough here.
Internships Opportunities
Companies like Amazon, Oracle, TCS, Cognizant offer internships. If a student doesn't get an intership, the college gives them a project to work on. Stipends vary from 15 or 20k per month to even 60k per month.
Placement Experience
Students can get internships at the beginning of their 3rd year/ 5th semester. For campus placements, you will have to wait for the 4th year/ 7th semester as in any other college in India. Since Vasavi is actually very close to Hi-Tech City in Hyderabad, a lot of companies visit the campus. Companies like Amazon, Microsoft, Google, TCS. The percentage is high for CSE and IT students. But there are companies for other branches as well. The percentage of selection is around 80%. The average CTC for CSE or IT students is around 6-7 lpa. For core branches, it goes lower.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fee of this college is not as high as those so-called 'big colleges'. However, if you compare to other local colleges, you might feel the fee is high. In my opinion, it's fair enough for a college like Vasavi, but yeah there is always a scope of improvement. There is fee reimbursement available for the eligible students.
Campus Life
The college infrastructure is average at best. It's not a HUGE campus, nor does it have a definite playground. It's just open ground, with a basketball court at one end, and college buses parked at the other. Since these are pandemic times, I can't really answer the question about extracurricular activities and sports, but from what I've learned from my seniors- it's better to not have high hopes for anything. Vasavi is known for its strict nature and it goes without saying that you are expected to perform academically. The canteen is meh. I can't find the right word for the classrooms though. They get the job done. And ofcourse, there are many clubs run by students, free for all.
