Remarks
The counselling process was completely online and was done on the basis of JEE MAINS ranking and personal preferences and reservation quota for the particular class. Fee waiver was also available for meritorious students on the basis of their JEE MAINS ranking but was only provided to the students with low family income. Fee waiver was only provided to 5% of the total strength of the batch.
Course Curriculum Overview
I choose BTech Computer Science and Engineering because I am interested in this subject and see the possibility of having a fulfilling career in this field. The faculty to student ratio is 1 to 80. The faculty mostly consist of M.tech and PhD graduates. They are highly experienced and learned in their respective fields, having not only theoretical knowledge but also practical applications. Due to the Corona pandemic, the exams were a bit delayed and were done in online mode. The exams were of moderate difficulty which one would be able to clear with the right amount of practice.
Internships Opportunities
I am currently a first student and have not had the opportunity to take part in any internships and thus am not much knowledgeable on the topic of internships with stipend. Though one of my senior was offered a pre-placement package during his internship at ExxonMobil.
Placement Experience
Students are eligible for campus placement from the 7th semester but one also gets pre placement offer in the earlier semester through internships. Some of the reputable companies that have visited the college are Samsung R&D institute, Amadeus, Reliance digital etc. Highest package offered was 37lac per annum while the average package is about 6lac per annum. The circuital branch have a 95%placement while the rest go for higher studies. I currently am not too sure on whether to persue a job or try for higher studies.
Fees and Financial Aid
The tuition fee is increased 10% per year but is not a burden that might hinder students. One can also apply for the scholarship provided by the government which provides them with 90% of their tuition fee. As of my knowledge, currently, there is no job on the campus with a stipend.
Campus Life
HBTU Kanpur has an annual tech and cultural fest Adhyaay which is conducted in the month of November. The library has a lot of books that one would find useful for their academics but fails to provide anything outside the academic syllabus. The college being a hundred years old doesn't have the best infrastructure but still is provided with the necessary amenities. There is also an annual sports fest. HBTU also has a fortnight newsletter called the pulse of HBTU run completely by students.
Hostel Facilities
The students are free to choose whether they want to be in the hostel or rent outside the college campus. The hostel room has all the basic amenities that a student might need. All hostel have their own mess . The menu of mess is decided by students themselves and thus, it is also to their liking. Hostel are provided on first come first serve basis. Hostel are quite affordable for 25000 per year with electricity and internet connection included. The mess charges are 18000 per semester.
