My college experience

I have applied for many IITs and NITs. But I skipped that plan because of the branch as I was not getting good or u can say that core branch in that colleges. Rather than opt for lower branches in top IITs and NITs, I decided to opt ECE branch in NIT JSR. The counselling process was totally online because of this pandemic situation. Counselling for admission was conducted by online body JOSAA in which 6-7 rounds were there. After the Jossa round, CSAB counselling is the last option for admission in IITs and NITs. Qualifying JEE Mains and Advance is the only eligibility for JOSSA counselling. The minimum percentile required to get in NIT JSR opting ECE is around 97 percentile. PCM student can apply for jee mains after passing the 12th board. During counselling, we have to prepare a list of the colleges according to our preferences mentioning branch also. And we have to submit that to the JOSSA website. Then in the first round, college is allowed to us according to our rank in JEE and further rounds it keeps upgrading.

I chosed ECE branch because it has scope in both core and non-core companies. And the placement of NIT JSR is quite good and satisfactory for every branch. Faculties are also good in our college. Most of them are PhD scholar. Their teaching technique is also good. My batch has around 114 students of which 24 are girls. Exam in our college takes place at fixed interval without any delays. And the paper is moderate i.e not that much easy or too hard. The average student can easily solve 50% of the paper. And the marking system in our college is also good. Attendance is compulsory in our college. It must be greater than or equal to 75%.

At NIT Jamshedpur internship are given due importance and is also included as a part of the curriculum for the pre-final year students. Every BTech student is required to undergo industrial training as approved by the department. The training period varies from 6-8 weeks. Summer internship provides opportunities for students to gain experience. JUSCO, LRDE, BSNL, L$T, AFCONS INFRA, CPWD, ECIL, NTPC, NTT DATA, RINL, SAIL, TOKYO, TRF, HPES, ERICSSON, GODREJ CONSUMER PRODUCT, TATA MOTOR, TATA POWER, TATA STEEL, TELCON and many more companies and organizing offered summer training to our college student (2014 report).

The placement of NIT JSR is quite good. Its placement percentage is 90% or above. Many companies like Amazon, Deloitte, Tata, axis bank, Bajaj auto, Nokia, sabre, accolade, Infosys, TCS, IBM, Wipro, Oracle visit our campus for placement. The number of companies that participated in placement is 150 or above and the number of offers made is more than 400. The highest package of our college (this year 2021) is 37.5 LPA. And the average CTC is 15.5 LPA. Top recruiters are Amazon, Deloitte and Tata power. According to the 2021 placement record, 90% and above student of the Cse and ECE branch are placed in good companies. Placement of branches like Civil, MME is also good in our college because of its location. The highest package of our college (till now) is 39 LPA (2016 batch). Our college is improving in every field especially in placement, NIT JSR has a good record.

The fee for the first year in our college is about 2 lakh 20 thousand. But remission is also provided on the basis of income. If the income of any family is less than 1lpa then his/her whole tuition fees get remitted. And if the income is between 1 LPA- 5 LPA then two-thirds of the tuition fees for such student gets remitted. Institute fees for second semester onwards get reduced for every student. Student can also apply for a loan and various scholarship. In case if student is applying for more than one scholarship and is eligible for all scholarship then in that case he /she can only avail of one scholarship at a time. Rest amount of the scholarship goes to college. The college has a vast library from where student can issue any book for their study.

The new academic building has improved the infrastructure of NIT JSR to large extent. NIT Jamshedpur is located on the outskirts of Jamshedpur on 341.3 acres of sprawling, rolling hills, wooded land. Most of the land on the campus are unused. Culfest is the annual cultural fest of our college. It is organised at the national level. Ojass is the annual techno-management fest of our college. It is among the top-notch tech fests in the country. Culfest and Ojass are the main fests beside this, Technica, Cognitio and Vidhan are also the fests which is conducted by different branch's society. In our college there is three storied library premises which consist of reading room and stack room. There are 2 book bank in the library. Number of books in library is really in good numbers. All books related to our academics are available in our college's library. Modern classrooms is developed which consists of smart boards and several other facilities. There are many society, club and team in our college.

Hostel and mess facilities in our college are also satisfactory. There are 9 boys mega hostel and 4 girls hostel in our college. From the 2nd year onwards boys can have a single room but the girls have to share a room with atleast 2 members till the 4th year. There are several rules and regulations for the hostellers which everyone is required to follow. Warden is also there in each hostel. Male visitors like brother and father are not allowed in girls hostel. Hostel mess also provides good and healthy food to students. They provide fruit, green vegetables, egg, milk and other refreshing things also. The 32000 per year fees include the mess fee as well. The mess provides morning breakfast, lunch, evening snacks and dinner. The quality and quantity of food are also well in our college.
