IIM Trichy wholesome review

I applied to all IIMs from the CAT percentile and I got selected in IIM Ranchi, IIM Trichy, IIM Udaipur, and all lower IIMs. Out of the selected ones, IIM Trichy was the best option in terms of placements, faculty, and industry interaction opportunities. I have not availed of any quota. The admission criteria for general students were 98 percentile and the selection list on work ex, GDPI round marks, WAT round, and previous education details. The admission process was smooth and it was based on selection and nothing else.

I chose MBA because I wanted to do it for a long time and was waiting for a good CAT percentile. So I tried twice and the second time I made it to an IIM. Faculty: Student ratio is more or less 1:20. Faculty are chosen by IIM Trichy board and director and the faculty is either experienced from other B schools or are Ph.D. students from premier B-schools. The teaching method is mainly based on case studies and interactive classroom presentations and QnA rounds. Exams were done thrice a year. So it was a trimester system and exams were quite difficult to pass if you have not done any of the classes. But if you attended 50% of the classes, it will be easy to pass.

Internship was with Shell. Woked as a BA intern for research on skill framework and BA center of excellence. Had a great experience. Created frameworks, used strategy, and did many other things. Created reports, used POWER BI, Tableau, and excel to a large extend. Did data crunching and liked the culture well. There was ample chance of responsibility and importance and those were given to me.

Placements are quite good, all students are eligible irrespective of grades and work ex and education. The only catch is you have to pass all the terms. Summer internship happens quite extensively with 100% placements every year for the last 10 years. Around 110 companies came with around 200 offers for summers. The best package is 2.5 LPA for 2 months and the average is 80000 for 2 months. Final placements happen over a large period of time and many big brands like CollegeDunia, Shell, Bain, and Mckinsey come with the highest package of 30LPA and the average is around 15LPA.

Fees hikes more or less every 2 years and it is quite high in comparison to IITs or other B-schools and some new or baby IIMs. Cost to Study is quite high and if you are not in the top 50% of the batch, it is tough to recover and ROI gets hampered in comparison to FMS or IITs. The scholarship I have not got before joining but after the first year, I got awarded the Director's Merit List scholarship which is given to the first 15 students of the whole batch and that scholarship covers half of one term's fees.

IIM Trichy has a vibrant campus life and an active social life. There are a lot of events throughout the year and the primary ones are Dhruva fest and guest lectures Lakshya series that happened for 12 chapters. The library is quite good, best in class with most books available either in physical or copies. Though the different search platforms are less in comparison to IIMs and those need to be bettered. There are sports committees and a good gym and sports facilities. There are many important committees who bring great CV points, the best of them in terms of exposure is the Placement Committee.

The hostel facility is quiet and the mess food is fine like it is good enough. The late-night canteen could have been better and the wending machine would be the icing of the cake. Registration happens automatically with selection as it is a residential campus.

Yes, I have faced GDPI and WAT. Topis were mainly Indian policies, government steps and policies, state policies, state V center, and then world topics as well. I prepared for a month for WAT by regularly writing essays and getting feedback on them. Moreover, I have taken a GDPI and Interview crash course from TIME for 5000 for 2 months.
