AJAY RAM's Review On Government College Of Technology - [GCT], Coimbatore

From board examination mark i opted this college a cutoff mark of 197 out of 200 is enough for this course.I got 197.5 and i choose mechanical engineering. I opted this because the college is best in rank and near to my home town.

Since it is the structure framed by anna university it is almost same throughout tamilnadu colleges but GCT being autonomus it has done some own changes in its syllabus our syllabus is mainly focused towards IES pattern our syllabus is being entirely modified for the up coming year.

Stipends are available only for the post graduate students since Government College of Technology come under TEQUIP funded institutions stipends will be provided to all the eligible candidates.Rs 6000/month will be provided normally.

Since GCT is the well established institution from 1945 it has a huge allumini base from all around the world. our college major recruiter id TCS apart from this BOSCH, LTTS, ELGI, SANMAR, HUNDAI, SAINT GOBAIN, TAFE, ITC HOTELS etc will regularly visit for campus drives apart from this many IT companies shows much interest in recruiting mechanical students nearly 60%students will get placed every year average salary for students od mechanical engineering will be around 3 lakhs per annum as fresher.

Every year we will organise two functions.one function in even semester (induction) and other in odd semester (technotryst). Two hands on workshop will be organised every year in which students from all colleges attend. Apart from this we also organised many technical and non technical events in which all students from various college participates. All arrangements are done only by our department students and this lead us to a good management skill and organizing ability.

Since it is a government institution the fee structure is very minimal only Rs 7000 is enough for one academic year all other amount will be funded by government itself.

State government scholarship worth 7000/year alumina scholarship worth 5000/year apart from this many private companies like TCS ,BOSCH also award scholarships worth 40000 to best students every year.

In mechanical engineering there is only 2 girls out of 145 boys and is entirely different in case of other department such as ECE etc extracurricular activities include Tamil club, English club, Green club, Arts club etc to bring out talents our college has one of the best labs among government institutions all kinds of sports are trained in our college and won many jonal competitions an IIT bombay integrated robotics labs has been established.

Hostel fees for one academic year including electricity fee is only Rs 302 which no can offer in this day. In comparison to the amount we pay the hostel is very good and neat to stay in.Mess food is not so good but we can have it. Canteen facilities also there which offers good food at minimal rate.

We have rich alumni network many IAS, IFS officers are from our college they are really useful for example the IFS officer an alumina of GCT helps all of us to get the Passport easily they are also helpful in getting internships.

It consists of eight semesters each semester will contain a certain number of subjects each subject will have certain credit points GPA out of 10 will be awarded based on the performance minimum 50% marks(including internals and externals) will be needed to pass the paper if got failed next attempt will be given in the next sem itself. Finally CGPA for entire semester will be calculated.

Anna university counsilling a single window system in which all eligible candidates from tamil nadu participate in it. It is a month long process all colleges which is affliated to anna university can be choosen every college will have its own number of seats allocated to the counselling process.

Since it is a government institution all the faculties apart from their teaching work they also want to do some government related activities apart from that they are also willing to take care of us in their available time.All the teaches are well qualified since they are recruited through TRB exam conducted by government.
