Remarks
I applied for quite a few colleges like DU, Symbiosis, BHU. I didn't get into Symbiosis because Xavier's and DU were always on my preference list . Xavier's cut off list came out way too early than DU. I cleared the first cut off which was 95.5% by 0.5 % and thus got into it. DU North Campus Colleges has always been on my wish list and I even made into two of them but by the time DU's cut off were released ,I was already half way to completing my first semester so I decided to continue in Xavier itself. Every year Xavier releases only two cut off list .In 2020 the highest cut off was 95.5 % and it closed on 94.5%.One needs to have maths as their compulsory subject in order to be eliglible for pursuing B.com. Also it considers best four subjects, in which English is a compulsory subject, in order to calculate one's percentage. Also the admission process is entirely merit-based.
Course Curriculum Overview
Accounting has always been my centre of interest and thus, Bcom. was certainly the best course to pursue. The faculty in Xavier's is far more than extraordinary. Every class is alloted a mentor for addressing student's queries and difficulties. Most of the professors possess a doctorate degree and the quality of education is truly impeccable. There is a lot of practical learning excercises which is compulsory for all the students and thus ensures personality development of every students. If one considers the syllabus and the degree of difficulty, it is a bit ahead of other colleges. This is because many of the colleges opt for MCQ pattern for conducting examination except for the honours subjects but Xavier conduct all its exams in a subjective manner. The course also involves tonnes of internal assessment. One needs to be regular and updated in order to pass the semester.
Internships Opportunities
Though the level of competition even for getting an intership is too high, it offers tonnes of internship opportunities. The Placement Cell of Xavier keep the students updated about the internship opportunities through their website. Big firms like Zomato,Kantar also offers interships for the post of sales manager, business analysts, digital marketing etc. along with stipend. However, most of the internships opportunities are offered by startups.
Placement Experience
The college has a placement cell to make students well versed in the placement process. However most of the students prefer to go for higher education rather than for a job which is why the placement rate is not very high. Also keeping in mind the current job market , it is not very wise to expect a high pay job after merely having an undergraduation degree. Like most of the students ,I have also planned to go for professional courses after my graduation. However its placement cells provides many opportunities for internships and jobs
Fees and Financial Aid
The fees per semester for the evening batch of B.Com. is 50k which is just double the fees of other colleges. Undoubtedly it's too high and one should give a deep thought about it before getting into college. The college also provides the opportunity of availing scholarships. However one can apply for it only if they meet the scholarship criteria of minimum marks, age, and family's annual income.
Campus Life
Xavier has a lot of societies like Commerce Society, Finance Society, Entrepreneurship Development Cell, Literary clubs and the list goes on . For the purpose of social work, it has NSS which is open for all the departments. Insignia is a business festival organised every year by the students. In order to ensure the engagement of the students in various societies and fests, the college has made it compulsory for every student to complete 90 hours of non-academic credit by attending different programs and seminars. It equally ensures their involvement in social work by making it compulsory to have 30 hours of social credit. The availability of books, journals, past year's question papers in the library is adequate. In addition to it, they also provide online access to the library.
