Remarks

The college is efficiently managed by the Latin Catholic Diocese of Kollam. The FMNC college have been instrumental in raising the educational standards of the downtrodden people in not just district of kollam but also adjoining districts of Trivandrum and Allepy. The college boasts of a strong Alumni network. Many of its alumni have reached prominent places in their respective fields and are contributing back to their Alma Mater.

Entrance Preview

Ever since I first saw FMNC college Campus during my journey from Kollam to Chennai, I wanted be part of it. There was something about the college. When the time came to apply for my under graduate course, I ditched my engineering seat to take admission in this college. And I know it now, it has one of the best faculty and facilities for the students to grow both academically and personally.

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

The college provides both the infrastructure and an experienced and qualified faculty to assist students in understanding their course curriculum. The course curriculum is of high standards. We also have a well equipped library to help us getting the required references and notes.

Internships Opportunities

I am not yet aware of any internship program that is conducted by Fatima Mata National college. However, a number of students who have passed both their Masters and NET exam are allowed to teach in the college as guest lecturers.

Fee Structure And Facilities

Since I got the admission in the merit quota, the fees were very affordable. Even for others, the fee structure of the college is something that can be afforded. The college provides students from different strata of society equal opportunity to study the courses of their choice. There is no restriction for meritorious students to study in the institution. In fact, the college have been instrumental in raising the educational standards of the downtrodden people in not just district of kollam but also adjoining districts of Trivandrum and Allepy.

Campus Life

4.5

Not sure about the exact gender ration. However the number of girl students are always greater than male students in all the departments. There are a number of debate and quiz competitions that are conducted by both the college and the departments. The college celebrates its Annual sports meet with much enthusiasm. Many of them also get selected to both state level and national level sports meets.

Hostel Facilities

4

I was a day scholar and hence did not get a chance to be part of the hostel community. However, there is enough space for students wishing to study while staying the hostels. Hostel facility is provided for male and female students. These facilities are located very close to the college though not within the campus. The hostels and the mess are known to be clean. The hostel fees is INR 3000/ month. There is also option to stay as paying guests for people who do not wish to stay in the hostels. There are a number of such facilities in and around the college. With another two major collges and several other educational institutions in the locality, the area is one of the most safest places in Kerala.

Alumni/Alumna

The college boasts of a strong Alumni network. Many of its alumni have reached prominent places in their respective fields and are contributing back to their Alma Mater.

Exam Structure

There were 3 term exams. The first and second term exams were internal while the third term exam was conducted by the Kerala University. Unlike the semester system, students will need to study the entire year's portion while preparing for the academic year end University exams. In case you fail or score less marks, you can always improve your scores during the supplementary exams usually conducted during December.

Admission

I applied for BA English Language & Literature Course in 2002. I gave English as my first choice, Zoology as second and Botany and Third. There was no written test or entrance test conducted way back in 2002. However, now they do have a more grilling interview session than the one I had. I was called for an interview with the Principal in July 2002. After the interview the list of final list was published in August. I joined my classes in September first week.

Faculty

4.5

FMNC has an experienced and qualified faculty to assist students reach their goals. Most of the faculty members hold a PhD in their respective subjects. Others have passed NET exam with very high score. There is atleast one faculty member in each of the departments who held top ranks during their academic years. Two of my professors are pursuing post doctoral studies.

The curriculum is suitable for the modern age of teaching, the way of education is well balanced with projects, assignments, presentations and also notes .we have reading assignments where the faculty members ask us to read an entire book and give our review on it.the exams are quiet moderate and in my opinion teachers should use more ai tools as a learning aid which will be more effective for the students

Placement Experience:

From the last semester pass out we a re eligible for the campus recruitment for job or placement. So many companies visit us for the interview or some checking like , hero honda , maruti suzuki etc. the main reason for it was a low amount of budget is that get from this placement maybe 15 thousand let month ect. Only the company can take the students for it so the percentage of the students who getting placement will change in every year. My plan was to get an admission in the central government University for doing master of degree in History. And try the best exam called upsc.

Course Curriculum Overview:

There are many aspects of the curriculum that infulenced my decision to choose BA English Literature in St. Berchmans College. Their syllabus is far more challenging and interesting than what other colleges and universities offer in Kerala. The examinations and overall assessment of projects and grades are top-tier and is comparatively difficult to obtain. The course steadily provides good quality information and knowledge on English Litearture and readies the student to be more than qualified for further studies in English Literature or any related courses. The areas where they can improve in the course curriculum is through availing more optional courses such as various other language courses/philosophy related courses to be selected. Their teaching environment can also be improved by improving basic infrastructure in the classrooms such as airflow etc. They conduct their exams freequently and on time. The examinations are challenging but necessary for overall improvement in students
