Remarks
I had applied for a few colleges in Mumbai and secured admission in MET, Chetna, Welingkar, and few others. I chose Welingkar as it was better in all ways and was in Mumbai too which was my priority. There are no quotes if you are looking for MBA colleges. The admission for all the colleges will seem to be a little complicated at the start because there will be a lot of information that each college will be asking so keep all the documents handy. There are charges for every college application form so apply wisely as each college has a cut, for example, Welingkar had a cut off of 80 percentile for CMAT scores and then they also give options, in the end, to apply directly by paying 3k for Institute level seats in case there is some unavailability in any course. Every college has a similar admission process which had GD and PI rounds. For Welingkar, the students have to fill a very detailed form and write good answers as their chances of getting the admissions gets better.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course that I chose was Business Design as it gives a better insight on general management consisting of information on all the fields like marketing, HR, operations, finance, and designing. Also, in the second year, students can choose their prepared field. The students are 60 in every class and there are approximately 10 faculty so the ratio becomes 1:6. The faculty is good and some are brilliant like KD sir, Dr. G sir, and few others. They teach on a practical basis and not just theoretically. Welingkar has a total of 3 trimesters in one year with each being of 3 months including an exam of 1 week. The exam being online was not so difficult but projects and assignments are tough.
Internships Opportunities
The companies for internships were not that great. They were mainly start-ups and didn't offer a stipend. Few companies promised to pay but changed their policy one of them was Outlook who picked up approximately 120 students and promised to pay 7000 per month but they are not getting any money and are forced to do sales jobs.
Placement Experience
While the student is in Trimester 2, they can apply for a summer internship on campus and off-campus. 20% of companies were nice, rest 80% were start-ups with calling jobs so start looking for internships outside campus too like on Internshala, LinkedIn and etc. The placement starts in October and again the ratio remains the same and the average package is around 7 lacs CTC. Almost 85% of students get placed and a few from the remaining join their family business or start their own startup work. I plan to work after my post-graduation.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fees for Welingkar are 11,00,000/- for 2 years. There are no scholarships and the college has provided no relief on fees in the first year in spite of having online classes. One can take an education loan as there are no in campus jobs and there is no time to do part-time work.
Campus Life
The campus is amazing and looks amazing. The campus has many classes and a separate class for all the activities. The social life is not great because the classes are online though people have managed to connect with each other. There are physical books provided by the college, no extra-curricular activities, no sports, no events. The college just made the students study for more than 10 hours.
Interview Experience
The process of admission at Welingkar Institute is very complicated and one has to make sure they don't miss the strict and short deadline. The topics of GD are very interesting and the PI round was difficult. There was no test paper but a form that was very detailed and based on this the interviewer has asked few questions so make sure everything you write in the form is correct, genuine, and remember them. The best way to prepare for these complicated rounds is by watching YouTube videos and taking the help of teachers and seniors from previous colleges.
