Remarks

I got admission via UPSEE. My rank was around 6000 and hence got a fee waiver seat in Information Technology. GCET gives admission via scores in UPSEE, JEE-MAINS, and on paid seat as well. Admission process was very simple and hassle free.

Course Curriculum Overview

1.5

My first choice was CSE but didn't get a Fee Waiver seat there and hence chose IT. At that time on the hindsight, I was worried about this decision of mine but now when I look back I feel it was a very good decision and both the courses are 99% similar. Faculty student ratio is pretty good. There were around 10-15 faculties for IT branch with 120 students. Many faculties were common for CSE and IT. Most of the faculties had masters degree with few having doctorate as well. Faculties were educated enough but barring one or two, rest of them had a traditional teaching style of forcing the students to memorize everything. Anyway in an engineering college, what u do outside of course curriculum matters more. Term exams were very timely. And in my experience they were very easy to pass. Marks were given based on handwriting and how much pages u filled. No one really cared about the quality of answers.

Internships Opportunities

0.5

Amazon visited for an internship in SDET for final year students. No company visited for providing internships to 2nd/3rd year students. And i dont have anything more to type here but it says input too short so just filling.

Placement Experience

3.5

Campus placements started from the 7th semester during my time. A lot of companies visited. Notable mentions were Amazon and Directi. Although the vast majority of students were selected by service-based companies like Infosys, Wipro, Cognizant, and TCS.

Fees and Financial Aid

The yearly fee was Rs 128000 in my time. For fee waiver seats, it was Rs 5550. There was some meager hike every year. Also, GCET is affiliated to state university and hence fee structure is controlled by state government. Scholarships are provided to students based their reservation category. College also financially supports students if they need assistance for some outstanding work they are doing. Multiple companies came for full time jobs and internships on the campus. I got offers from few. Although I decided to join Nissan Digital India as a software engineer via off campus placement.

Campus Life

4.5

Annual Fest - Gquasar, Tech Fest - Metacognition. Not many relevant books were available in the library. The rooms for CSE/IT branch are based on auditorium style with projectors and centralized AC in every room.GCET boasts of a lot of different clubs in multiple areas like art club, literature club, technical club, coding club, etc. Each of these clubs is very active and greatly helps u in your overall development. Multiple clubs are there. For eg. LOOP, Enthiran, Lingo Freaks, Arts club, etc.

Hostel Facilities

2.5

They have hostel rooms with the option of 2/3/4 occupancy. Generally, a room consists of a separate table, chair, single bed, wardrobe for each individual. Like any other college mess, meal quality sucks real bad, Hostels are provided on a first-come basis at the time of registration. For my 3rd and 4th year, we rented a flat in alpha1 society.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I choose this course because I want to be a software developer. The faculty are very kind and helpful. Almost every faculty member has completed there post-graduation from various established colleges. The examination scheme is a little bit slow here. Students can pass their semester exams if they are paying at least 45 per cent of their concentration.
