Remarks
I had applied to BITS Pilani, IITs and NITs. I am a general category student. The admission process wasn't easy. It was through 2 daunting exams, JEE Main and JEE Advanced. I'm not sure about the age criteria but for the admission to my stream, the cutoff for a boy, of the general category was around 315 last year. For girls, it was something in the 800s. Since there was lockdown, there wasn't much counselling. All that happened was we had to fill a form with our preferences in order.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum seems difficult to me. There are tons of theory courses on Mathematics. Students from my department also need to do courses from the computer science and electrical engineering department. There hasn't been much personal faculty-student interaction owing to the online scenario. The faculty is obviously really qualified. Mostly, the teaching has happened in an asynchronous way. Lectures were uploaded and we had to watch them. Each course has different exam policies. Some conduct exams almost every week while some have not more than 2 exams in the whole semester. To pass a course is not really difficult but to score good, one definitely needs a lot of effort.
Internships Opportunities
There are 2 kinds of internships people apply for Research internships and Corporate internships. Research internships are sorts of projects given by university professors to the students. A lot of students go for such internships abroad to world-renowned colleges too. Corporate internships, as the name suggests, happens in some company where you are hired as a summer intern. These can be startups too, depending upon the student's preference.
Placement Experience
A good deal of companies come to the campus. Most of the students who opt for campus placements, get placed.
Fees and Financial Aid
Financial aid is automatically given to students who aren't in the general category. Their fee is substantially lower. Loans are also easily available to the students. The institute also helps its students by supplying them with 4G hotspots and tablets in case someone has trouble with the internet. There was a Reliance Foundation scholarship for CS and MnC students that covered most of the students' fee but it was difficult to get. Scholarship opportunities keep coming up. In this regard, I don't have much knowledge as I never really focussed on it.
Campus Life
The fests and social activities on the campus are great. Unfortunately, I haven't had the opportunity to witness it in real life but I hope things get better soon. The library is open 24x7 and large enough to accommodate a lot of students at a time. Sports facilities are great. Every year, there are inter-hostel sports championships (GC) too. Students run all varieties of clubs. Be it music, dance, coding, F1 car designing, robotics. A lot of them are funded by the institute and are completely run by students only. The exposure available on the campus has no bounds. IITD conducts its annual cultural fest - Rendezvous and technical fest - Tryst.
Hostel Facilities
The rooms are not very spacious, but again, that's what you'd expect in a government college. Hostel amenities are great. Almost all hostels have their own gym, playing grounds, tennis courts, common rooms, table tennis tables, etc. Everyone can keep themselves involved in some of the other activity at all times. The hostel fee is really affordable when compared to other private colleges. PS - I haven't really stayed at the college. Everything I mention is just something I've heard from my seniors. This is why I can't really comment on the food provided.
