Remarks
This an excellent University for students wanting to pursue Engineering. The VIT-BS in comparison still needs to improve in terms of quality of teaching, Internship support, etc.
Entrance Preview
I had given both CAT - 74 percentile & MAT - 86 percentile exam. Basis both the score I had got admission.
Course Curriculum Overview
VIT did not have the usual semester pattern, but we instead had a trimester pattern. First-year MBA was mostly compulsory subjects. But during the second year, students could pick an elective for each trimester, this provides scope for taking up more subjects and also enabling to receive dual specialization eg.: Marketing & Operations.
Internships Opportunities
No, they did not provide internships. Internships were to be sorted by the students on their own. However, an Internship is compulsory for all MBA students.
Placement Experience
The placement was good, and the average package offered was anywhere between 4-5 lakhs p.a. Most companies coming for internships are from Banking, Consulting, and IT sectors. I myself had got placed with ING Vysya bank now Kotak Banks as a Corporate Sales Manager.
College Events
The college has many events which also includes events organized by different schools in the University. VIT Business School however had Riveria as the annual feast for the MBA department. The fest involved lot of extracurricular activities and also has an annual concert with eminent singers and performers like Shaan, Sunidhi Chauhan, Sheya Ghosla, etc performing during the fest.
Fee Structure And Facilities
The fees are moderately expensive, the hostel and food cost is to be paid separately. However, in the last 4 years since I studied there, the fee structure must have changed. Fees can be paid in yearly installments as well. The fees would range anywhere between 5-6 lakhs for the entire 2 years.
Fees and Financial Aid
None, in particular, is offered by the college. However, they have an excellent opportunity and scholarship for students who want to be part of Research or do a Ph.D.
Campus Life
The Campus is one of the best campuses in India. It has all the facilities including a bank, supermarket on the campus. The Library is one of the biggest libraries in Asia and has individual study pods available, including an e-library accessible on the high-end e-system, provide on each floor. Being Primarily known for Engineering the gender ratio is skewed with more boys the ratio would be 10 boys:4 girls. VIT campus is beautiful and has all the facilities from a robotic lab, high-end mechanical workshop, etc.
Hostel Facilities
The hostel facilities are excellent and one of the best provided in India. The girl's hostel is high security ensuring the safety of the female students. The hostel has a separate mess for vegetarians and nonvegetarians. You can choose which mess you want to be in they have a South Indian mess, a North Indian mess, and Special Mess (provides continental food).
Alumni/Alumna
Yes, they are helpful, the Alumni meet regularly and have an Alumni association called VITMAA. Constant email updates and Alumni meet updates are regularly shared with the Alumni.
Exam Structure
As mentioned having a Trimester pattern had exams at the end of every Trimester which is mostly 4 months time period. the exam scoring was the basis of the written exams, project reports, and assignments. It was split in an 80/20 manner ie. 80% evaluation basis written exam and rest for projects, presentations, and assignments.
Admission
The admission process is similar to any other college. I had given my entrance exams. Filled up the online admission form and paid the admission form charges via DD. The university sent me a confirmation of shortlisting for the GD-PI process. Personally went to the Vellore campus for the Group Discussion and Personal Interview basis which students were selected. The result of selection was announced the same day at the seminar halls and students were allocated campuses ie. Vellore Campus or Chennai Campus.
Faculty
The faculty was good and had good subject knowledge, all the professors are Ph.D. holders and have a good amount of teaching experience. The faculty is very approachable and assist students beyond subject learning by involving them in university projects and researches.
