Remarks
I have graduated my High School with 90% marks with a cut-off of 190/200 obtained from (Physics/4 + Chemistry/4 + Math Marks/2) from board exams. Because of my profound interest in physics, I had decided to opt for mechanical engineering from one of the government colleges or any esteemed institutions. I had applied for Anna University Counseling and had got an invitation letter stating the date of counseling since I had better cut off my counseling date was much sooner than the start date. I had various options for colleges to choose from during counseling and chose Panimalar Institute of Technology Chennai as almost all the government college seats were filled. After selecting the college I got an admission/seat allotment letter which could be used to avail myself of the seat in the said college within the allotted time.
Course Curriculum Overview
As I did not have much exposure to the Industry, I had to go with the suggestions from relatives along with my personal interest in mind I chose a mechanical engineering course. My batch had around 250 students with 50 students/class during the first year and a total of 50 students joined the later year as a lateral entry(diploma holders), The faculty and the facilities are quite decent as required for a typical engineering college as they had well-equipped labs, library, and such. Faculties(M.E. and above) were qualified enough to translate the concepts in the books and impart information without much hindrance. We had to write an Internal Assessment monthly and a University semester exam conducted bi-yearly.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fees Structure is 1,15,000/year for Day-Scholars including their bus and mess fees and an additional 25000(one time only) during the first year. The facilities and infrastructure on the campus are quite good but the cost to study is a bit higher as the bus mess fees are not optional. Students were encouraged to undergo Internships but without any assistance from college, one should use his/her own networks to first get the opportunity, then college would provide O.D(on-duty) from year III. Placements were not the best but still, some got placed but overall was an underwhelming experience during our batch and as I had decided to pursue higher studies, I didn't opt for placements.
Campus Life
Events like fest and celebrations are hard to come-by in campus besides once a year symposium but technical workshops and other events related to curriculum happened occasionally. Classrooms were typical not of any significance. No Infirmary was available in case someone got hurt(2015-2018) but after [2018] in case of emergencies, we can get treatment from panimalar health care besides the college campus.
