BGU, dream college life

I applied to KIIT University, and Xaviers as well but chose to stick to Birla beacuse of its age-old brand, its legacy and of course its most renowned green campus. I didn't avail any quota. I got admission on a merit basis. I was selected based on my 10th and 12th marks. There was a bit of counselling as to which stream, and then I got admission. The admission criteria would be at least above 50% in 12th.

I wanted to explore the commerce field and pursue CA at that point in time, hence I chose this course. The good part is, BGU doesn't have regular Bcom, it offers BCom(Hons), which is better in every way. The approx student-faculty ratio would be 50:1. The faculty in BGU is very well experienced and fun at the same time. Instead of just theoretical knowledge, they provide us with practical knowledge. The term exams were always on time, except when we faced a cyclone, due to which they got postponed. The questions are related to the course and based on practical knowledge.

Students are mainly offered placements in the management field and of course the MBA students. The placement rate has always been 100%. Students get placed in companies like Delloite, Infosys, TATA etc. The highest package goes up to 8.5 LPA and the lowest would be approx 5.5 LPA. My plans after getting my degree would be to pursue CA or MBA.

In my opinion, the fees charged were worth the whole experience. It cost around 3.8 lakhs (approx) for 3 years. Various scholarships are available as well given the background of the student and his/her financial condition. I haven't got a job yet because I am still a student. I am in my 3rd year.

We have a fest each year but it wasn't possible since the last year due to covid. BGU is famous for its fresher's party, last time is known as Parichay. Speaking of the library which forms an important part of the college, it is a 2 storey part of the building which is an attraction to most of the students. The classroom is air-conditioned, has projectors and is spacious. About extracurricular activities, BGU conducts various sports competitions, fashion related competitions, and also academic competitions. Rotaract is one of the clubs run by students, as well as the sports club. The student-run Instagram page is the most active one.
