IIT KANPUR - At a Glance

After clearing JEE MAINS, JEE ADVANCED and BITSAT, I made a priority order for my College preferences So first came top IITs then-new IITs then BITS and OTHER colleges like NITs During Jossa counseling, I got a BTech program in IIT KANPUR so I didn't go to other colleges As for the admission criteria, to get into IITs or NITs you are judged by your JEE ADVANCED and MAINS scores respectively I did fairly well in both. There is no min age as such but you should have 75%+ in PCM in the 12th board exams and you get only 2 chances to write the exam in JEE Regarding Admission process, I got college via Jossa counseling which was stretched out in several weeks and rounds ( shortened due to covid and time constraints) so here you have to fill a list of your preferences of college and branch If you are eligible for that particular program then you will get that branch in that particular college else you can always try to see for the last rounds (without even losing your seat which you)

Initially, I chose civil engineering as it was allotted to me during my counseling But I got some interest in my program in due time As for the students, there are about 4000 UGs and about 2.5KGS with around 450 faculty members So student: faculty ratio is around 15 As for the qualifications of the faculty members in IIT KANPUR, you should have Ph.D. degree first-class , the good academic record, 10 years of teaching/research experience (last 4 years should be at the level of associate professor ) Regarding grading mechanism, it all depends from professor to professor but generally, we have 2 term exams (mid sem and end sem ) with quizzes or labs or assignments embedded in between the course which also carries a huge weightage in some courses If one has attended all classes and solved assignments it is very easy to pass in all courses

Generally, students pursue internships in starting of 3rd year (this time around August due to pandemic) All types of companies offer internship like Tech companies, consultancy companies, core companies, accounts related companies offer internship for students which deals in real-life problems and their work impacts a thousand of people.

Already known that placement in a top IIT is very easy as compared to other NITs or Private colleges. Most of the placement offers are On-Campus . So percentage of Students getting placed is around 90-95 % Left overs include students opting for further studies, or civil services or research oriented. All big tech giants offers job in placement season like Microsoft, Amazon, Facebook, Google and almost all companies are open for all branch students (except a few wanting a particular niche) Popular startups also offers jobs during placement season.

In IIT KANPUR , Fees Structure is divided with various sections per semester like - Tution fees 100k Other charges sum upto 35k But for students with low economic backgrounds they get fee concessions in tution fees There are various scholarships for students also like DONOR SCHOLARSHIP, MCM SCHOLARSHIP, STUDENT BENEVOLENT FUND (by Students Gymkhana) apart from this institution also gives regular information about all relevant scholarship. Price Hikes are very less in IITs for UGs Most of the internships and placement jobs comes with stipend in campus which are almost open to every student with all programmes.

There are a hell of lot of activities in IIT KANPUR just to mention that there are different societies in IIT KANPUR which have their relevant clubs like Media and Cultural Council has clubs like Dance Club, Fine Arts Club, Design and animation club, Hindi Sahitya Sabha, English Literary Society, Humour House, Dramatics Music Club, etc & Games and Sports Council including all sports activities with games like Taekwondo, Boxing, badminton, cricket, football, etc & Science and Technology Council including Game development society, finance and analytics council, E-Sports society, Programming Club, Astronomy Club, Speedcubing club, Aeromodelling Club, Anime society, Electronics Club and also societies like Unmukt, Vox Populi,Debating society, PPOC and many more There is a very vast area handled by students in IITK such as Gymkhana activities, Counselling Service, Election Commission, and their relevant websites and also Student Search is a website run and developed by students.

In IITs , you have to reside in hostels allotted to you where either you share a room with 1 or 2 other students (normally in Ist year). Facilities like a Table, chair , bed, a notice board, etc are provided in almost each room Registration for hostels is done at the time of fees paid for the semester and meal quality in mess is excellent in canteens Apart from mess and canteens, there is a subsidy over shops like CCD, DOMINO and many more with the best food.
