Remarks
The only problem people face here is gender discrimination. If you are a girl, VIT Vellore may not be the right choice for you. Students are very friendly, but the only problem is the management. The girls have very strict rules to follow.
Entrance Preview
I took the VITEEE examination for entering the university. I was interested in computer science from my 10th grade and so I wanted to pursue my degree in computer science. The admission process in VIT is complained upon due to its no-negative-marking scheme. But the questions asked in the VITEEE are very JEE-like and hence one who can clear Mains can clear this.
Course Curriculum Overview
The courses for VIT can be viewed in the courses section on the official site. Deeply analyzing this, we find that core subjects in our school like physics and chemistry is only studied for one semester. There is a lot of math in my course, computer science. From our second semester, we can choose our own courses and our own time tables as per our wish. Hence there is a wide choice of courses.
Internships Opportunities
I'm just in my first year and I've just heard people say VIT is recognized by a lot of high IT companies like CISCO TATA. The internship is definitely available for all students studying in VIT.
Placement Experience
Campus placement through campus interview depends on your grade. If you have a 9+ CGPA overall you can get placed in a very good company for up to 12 lakh a year. Many big companies from India come for campus interviews. It's just the students who get placed may not seem significant for each company.
College Events
VIT is best known for its annual cultural fest Riviera. Even this year, Farhan Akhtar is said to be visiting us for the event as a chief guest. We also have a very famous gravitas, our tech fest, where big IT companies conduct workshops and the clubs in our campus keep competitions.
Fee Structure And Facilities
There are five categories for the fee payment. Category 1 pays the least. For CS category 1 students pay 1.5 lakhs per annum. Category 2 pay 2.5 lakhs category 3 pay 4 lakhs, category 4 pay 4.5 lakhs, and last pay 5 lakhs. The category you stand in depends on your rank. If you are more than 3000 ranks you come in the second category and so on.
Fees and Financial Aid
If you get less than a 100 rank, you get a 100% scholarship. Less than 500, you get a 50% scholarship. You get less than 10000 ranks, you get a 50000 rupees scholarship. You get less than 20000 ranks you get a 25000 rupees scholarship. Loans are available from banks if we avail for student loans.
Campus Life
The campus life is very great as we do have a lot of facilities. In my class, out of 66 people, 60 of them are boys. There are not many girls. There is an annual sports contest where we get lakhs of money if we win. There are plenty of clubs and we can join whichever we prefer. People are very nice and from a decent background and we appreciate that.
Hostel Facilities
The rooms are way too small and very bad. They claim to send cleaners every week, but I'm sitting here in November, the last they came was in July. They are extremely strict and have weird rules. The mess food is clean and it tastes as much as how much you would expect in a university hostel.
Alumni/Alumna
There are plenty of WhatsApp and Facebook groups where juniors connect with seniors. They lend us good books and give us tips on how to prepare for our exams. We also get to meet up at the central library where they join us.
Exam Structure
Exams are different. We have two cumulative exams each for 50 marks, where one is open book, and one term-end exam for 100 marks which matters most. The system is very easy as most of your marks are dependant on your digital assessments and projects. What matters most is your term-end exam which contributes 30% to your overall CGPA.
Admission
The details on how-to-get-a-seat can be viewed on the official vit website which is vit.com. The admissions or this VITEEE exams starts from august or September 2016. We need to be pursuing our 12th grade or must have already completed it with an average of 60% in math physics and chemistry.
Faculty
VIT is a huge university especially our Vellore campus. There are over 1000 faculties and the university says all of their faculty is from IITs and IIMs. As far as I'm concerned, they have experienced even if the latter statement isn't true. There are a lot of people who complain about their teachers but they aren't so bad for me for now as I'm just in my 1st year.
