Life in an IIT

It is the best thing that ever happened to me. The campus, its environment is one of the best. College management is also really good. They tend to cater to each and every need of the students. This is my second home and I love my insti.

IIT JEE. SC category rank - 215. I have a passion for mechanical engineering from my school days, I was into cars and bikes and always wanted to do something related to it. I heard from my seniors that Mechanical Engineering in Chennai is the best.So I opted for it and successfully got through.

The courses are quite interesting and stressful too. I have courses related to Thermo dynamics, applied mechanics, heat transfer, fluid mechanics in the core part. Mathematics, Chemistry, Humanities & Sciences courses in the non core part.

Many reputed companies such as ITC, HUL, Deutsche bank, Goldmann Sachs, American Express, Citi corp, GE, Schlumberger, Tata Steels, Wipro, Microsoft, Ola, Google offered internships.Stipends range from 75k p.m to 10k p.m But you need to be in top layer of your class with some good skills to crack these. General Stipend is about 10k.

Placements & job opportunities are really good compared to other colleges because it is one of the top 5 engineering colleges in India. All the above mentioned companies offer placements. Packages in my department range from 6lakh p.a. to all the way up to 36 lakh p.a. which varies every year. Average package is around 9 lakh p.a.In a batch of 150 around 120 people get placed and others opt for higher studies or civil services. So around 90% people get placed.

Saarang( Cultural fest) - It has a footfall of around 50000. It is a 5day fest which includes Classical night, Choreo night, Edm night, Rock show, Popular night.Many world class artists performed in our institute. Last year Padmashri Shobana, Karnivool, DJ Nucleya, Agam, Sunidhi Chauhan were in our institute.Shaastra(Tech fest) - It is an ISO certified fest with a huge footfall. It has got all types of competitions, workshops, lectures, demonstrations. It is a must for tech enthusiasts.There are many more department fest's with each department having their own fest.

The fees for general category students is around 70k per semester including the mess and hostel charges. SC and ST people have around 20 to 30k per semester. There are lots of scholarships and loan facilities available. So it is smoother on the pocket. Overall it is a feasible fee structure.

Literally every person in the insti gets a scholarship. There is an ST, SC scholarships if you are below creamy layer. MCM scholarship of around 50k for general category students. There are many other merit based scholarships. We have two banks(sbi, canara) inside our institute and they offer a full loan facility for students including laptops.

Gender ratio is too less. It may be around 1:8 girls and boys. Hostel parties are one of the best in the institute. Labs are one of the best in India. We have respective grounds for each and every sports. All the facilities are of state of the art. We have litsoc and techsoc events going on through out the semester. They include debates, dance, western music and light music events, treasure hunts, writing events, speaking events, acting, photography, film direction and so many events in litsoc. Techsoc has robotics, ic engines, coding, analytics, data analysing and many other events. There are sports competitions for every sport. Hostels contest among themselves for a trophy. Our is one of the most freedom guaranteed institute. U have each and every right. No discrimination on any basis.Honourable mentions - Indian National Cricket team practices in our institute cricket ground. I met almost all of them and famous personalities in all fields are invited to our campus for various lectures and talks.

Hostel and Mess charges include around 18,150 per semester. Roughly it translates to around 88rupees per day for mess bill. The food is of good quality and very hygienic. Hostels rooms are sharing (2 per room) in the first year then single rooms from 2nd

Our alumni network is huge. We have a big International and Alumni Relations department which looks out to all the needs. We get huge amounts of sponsorship from our alumnus. They often come to the campus and enjoy their time here.

U have a total of three examinations per semester. Quiz 1, Quiz 2 each for around 20 marks and a final end semester for 60 marks. Labs are once in a week depending on credit basis. Exams and labs are slightly hectic.

All the faculty are highly qualified and highly experienced. They are into research stuff even now and publish research papers. So you can learn a lot from them.
