Remarks
There were a little bad experience of campus placement. Only 70 to 80% B.tech Students were getting job. If you considered about other students like M.Tech and Phd then very less job opportunity for the even less than 20%. Apart from this there was also a problem with classes. some classes was held in CRC and some classes held in DOMS. we needed to spend 3-4 Minutes to go one classes to another class. our class time duration was 50 minutes only but some professor was teaching up to 1 hours, so no time to go one class to another.
Entrance Preview
I took JEE in 2012. My Score was not good but i Got B.Tech in Chemical engineering by My OBC reservation. Opening and closing Rank(AIR) for general was 1300 and 1700 respectively.
Course Curriculum Overview
My courses curriculum was little bit easier than other branch like Mechanical and computer science. I needed to complete total 180 credit for B.Tech degree in total eight Semester. there was different types of courses like Minor Stream (MNS), Humanities and Social Science (HS), ID, Mathematics, Physics, Free electives, Department electives, Chemistry, Labs, Workshops and core courses.
Internships Opportunities
Yes, our college provide internship but it fails to provide internship to all students due to high numbers of students and less numbers of vacancies. Approximately more than 50 companies came for internship. stipend varies from 5000 to 150000 per internship. i am writing few companies name who came for internship at iitm. Citi Cop, Relince, Dalmia Cement, Axis Bank, OLA.
Placement Experience
Placement and job opportunities is below average at IIT Madras. approximately 70 to 80% B.tech students got job through campus placement. there are very less job opportunity for M.tech and Phd students salary offered by companies are varies from Rs.3.5 LPA to Rs.45 LPA. Flipkart offers 27 LPA for products manager job. Citi Cop offers Rs17 LPA, PayTm offers Rs.15 LPA, Snapdeal offers Rs.17 LPA, JP Morgan offers Rs.45 LPA, Google offers Rs.25 LPA, Microsoft offers Rs.28 LPA.
College Events
There are many events celebrated in IITM campus like Sastra, Saarang, Chemeclave, Biofest, Mechanica and so on. Sastra and Saarang is one of the biggest festival of IITM. in Saarang there are lots of program and event held like Popular Night, Choreo Night, Fashion Show, Singing, Dancing, Dramatics, Robotics and so on.
Fee Structure And Facilities
There was total Sum of Rs.18500 for Hostel Fee and Rs.33000 for Academic Fee per semester. But it changes with Batch to Batch. Fee For New Batch 2016 Hostel Fee Rs.21500, and Academic Fee Rs.75000 per semester. So for me Fee structure was feasible. Academic Fee for ST/SC was Rs.6700 only instead of Rs.33000.
Fees and Financial Aid
Yes, Several good scholarship and loan for students were offered by institute like MCM scholarship in which they waive our tuition fee and also get Rs.1000 per month as pocket money. I availed MCM so i needed to spend for Hostel FEE and Examination fee including BUS charges and Library fee.
Campus Life
My campus life was awesome. There was 90% Male students and 10% female students. there was also a centre for innovation(CFI) where we were able to innovate. we had lots of opportunity to work smoothly and getting Most advantages of all opportunities like Hi FI Fast Internet, Library, Central Workshop, CFI, and Tech rooms in every Hostels. there was many students from different culture and religions. There are also politics in campus related to General Secretary, Hostel Secretary, Mess secretary, Garden Secretary, Branch councilor and Dean of Students. There was also severals group in this campus like ACEPT, HINDI MITRA MANDAL.
Hostel Facilities
Hostel facilities was average. There was two types of rooms in ours postals, one was single and another was sharing room. we had dispenser in each wings and Washing machine in each diagonal Bathroom. we had also a water cooler which was donated from one of our Alumni. we had a beautiful garden in half middle of hostel and a small playground of another half. The mess food was average. we had different types of Mess like North Indian, South Indian, Jain Food, Food court. Food quality was average.
Alumni/Alumna
Alumni Network and seniors interaction was very helpful. Suppose some student is very poor in financial condition then Alumni provide them loan without any interest even if you want to return then return else you can keep money forever. Seniors were helpful to know about courses and examination patterns. They were also helpful to advice our higher education in abroad.
Exam Structure
Exam structure was different for different for courses. Mainly there are Two Quizzes which held in each 40 Days and one end semester. Quizes Marks is 20% each and final semester is 60%. For some courses there is 10% for assignment and 15% for first quiz, 25% for 2nd quiz and 50% foe end semester. For lab there are 20% for lab report, 30% for viva, and 50% foe end semester.
Admission
i was enrolled for Admission online. I preferred IIT Madras at first choice. i got B.tech in chemical engineering on the basis of my rank. same information was shared through online portal. I visited IITM on 24th July 2012. Admission was taking in Student Activity centre (SAC) building. we had to produce our all relevance documents like JEE admit card, JEE Rank Card, 12th Board Marks sheets, OBC certificates. Administration was very good and helpful for us. if we are missing some document or we don't have it at the time of admission then they provided us 3 Month duration to submit it.
Faculty
IIT faculty were good(obviously not all faculty). Almost 95% Faculty was excellent in teaching and they had good standers. Also they referred us high standards books for self studies. Some Faculty were not able to complete full syllabus on time so they were taking extra classes so full syllabus can be finished before exams. Few professors had good and very deeply knowledge of particulars course.
