honest review for IIITDMJ

IIIT usually focuses on studies related to computer science and as I was interested in CSE from a very young age I preferred them over NIT or IIT. Other than that I got seat in this specific college according to my rank there were only 2 options for me either B. Tech. From IIITDMJ or integrated M.Tech. from IIIT Gwalior but as I have future plans for M. Tech. From abroad I preferred IIITDMJ.

I was always interested in CSE even before I was much into general science( PCM) so I preferred this course. Most of the faculty members here are PHD holders and faculty to student ration is approx 1: 20 (total 67 faculty members AFAIK).Teaching method are not much different from other IIT's but sadly few of them are not interested in teaching but just showing slides and some of them don't even try to prepare slides they just show screen shot from books. On the other side some professors are really supportive and help us in projects and other activities.

I didn't go for any college based internship but I am participating in Google Summer of Code which is a open source based program and is of intership level. I am receiving a stipend of 1lakh for 2 months of work and completion of my project.

Placement and job opportunity for CSE students are great there are multiple offers each year and students are placed in companies like Amazon, Microsoft on campus as well as off campus usually most students get placed and those who don't usually prefer to go for higher studies. Placement cell is supportive and provide various courses to build communication skills of student so they can perform good in their interviews. There are a lot of internship opportunities as well in many companies as well as research intern opportunity on various colleges even abroad.

Fee structure is well balanced and includes tution fee of approx 70k for a Sem, 10k mess fee and 10k hostel fee there are few scholarship available for students one specifically for MP students with more than 85% in boards and another for students with family income below poverty line. I haven't applied for any financial assistance or campus job for now.

Campus and social life is great there are lots of technical, cultural and sports club and we have 3 fest every year namely abhikalpan as tech fest, Tranag as cultural fest and GUSTO as sports fest. Sports facilities include cricket, football, badminton, lawn tennis, volleyball, basketball, table tennis, chess and carrom. As for cultural activities there are drama club, dance club, arts club, debate club and many more. For technical part there is programming club, robotics club, electronics club, racing club, automation and fabrication club, astronomy club etc.The campus is lush green and has few good spots to chill out with friends and hostel life is really awesome.

Hostel fee is 10k per semester and conditioning of hostel is good there are few problems like some blocks have broken washrooms but they are maintained time to time, hostel room are 3 person based sharing and are spacious there is night canteen available which is great and mess food is not that great so usually students frequently visit the night canteen, each room consist of 3 switched and charging point we have to bring our own extension cables but there are 3 Lan ports in each room and we have to bring our own LAN for that, some blocks have WiFi but due to old routers students usually prefer rooms with LAN connection.
