A view of IIITDMJ

The main reason I joined the course was due to its course structure. In 2017, there were only 3 colleges that used to provide admission for bachelor of design. There were only 5 faculties for our course so it was mentioned that faculty from other colleges like NID and IITs and people from the industry would be our visiting faculty.

I had a great experience at IIIT Jabalpur. The curriculum is designed for hands on experience for the students. Most of the classes were focused on practical experience rather than the theory. The schedule provide us 2-3 free days that provided us the time to explore the field on our own. Initially the library didn't used to have books based on the design curriculum and our faculties used to provide us with the soft copy of the books. But later with time library also started to stalk design books.The best thing about the college was that the student and faculties were constantly learning things from each other.The only drawback here was that since at that time design discipline only had a few students it was often neglected by the academic department and we need to remind them about our existence but with the increase in the number of students the situation has improved.

I got opportunity to intern at ISRO as a design intern through the college but unfortunately it was cancelled due to the COVID pandemic. Later I joined endoenergy (design of commercial exoskeleton)

The placement could be considered average but many times students got into well reputed companies like Microsoft and Amazon. Most of the students try to convert their internship opportunity to the jobs while majority students try for higher studies. The placement scenario has definitely improved since I joined and constant efforts are being made to make it better. In our batch almost 15 students got internship from Amazon(while Covid pandemic was going on).

The fees was fixed for a particular batch, I joined the college when our fees was 75,000 including mess and hostel charges and it remained the same for all the semesters. There is a hike in fees of 10% for the next batch. All the scholarship that were provided by the central government was informed to us and it was taken care that all the deserving candidates got it. IIITDMJ has a tie up with Japan and because of it few students get opportunity to visit Japan in a cultural visit free of cost.The placement scenario could be considered average but in most of the cases the student considered higher education.

Jabalpur being in the centre of India, almost every culture is found here. But there are no clubs present there. The distance from the city is a major drawback for the college. The city is almost 30 mins away from the college if any vehicle is used. Bus facility is provided by the college at the minimum possible cost. The bus ticket to city costs only Rs.10 where as auto would charge Rs.200.

Bachelor students boys share there rooms in triple occupancy in 2 hostlers while the girls were provided rooms of double occupancy.In our 3rd year other hostlers were started as the student intake were increased.All the students share a single mess building.
