Remarks

I had applied for CU Main Campus, Presidency University, and other colleges under CU like BESC, Sri Shikshayatan, Lady Brabourne, Bethune, etc. but I chose Bhawanipur Education Society College (BESC) because my name was first published in BESC's First Merit List. I didn't wait for the other college's merit list as I had already done my BA (English Honours) from BESC, so I knew that the faculty was good. Due to the Covid situation, we didn't have any counselling procedure in 2020. But, during my Bachelor's in Arts (English) we had a counseling day.

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

I chose to do my Master's because, in this world of competition, one needs to have higher qualifications to secure a good job, and other than that I love English so I was curious to learn more about it. Currently, I am attending classes of 14 excellent professors, most of them have completed their Ph.D. or M.Phil. As we are an autonomous college under CU, we have the semester exams in the same time as the Main Campus. Even our internal exams are usually held in the same week, or they are a few days apart from each other. Our papers are corrected by CU so it's quite tough, usually our SGPA in MA (English) varies from 4-7.

Internships Opportunities

3.5

According to my personal experience, internships can be paid or unpaid. Usually, they ask for your own expectation about the amount of your stipend and based on that there will be a negotiation. Though in MA I have not applied, in my Bachelor's I applied for a publishing company and the stipend there was around 8000. I also applied for another company, and they provided certificates, but the internship was unpaid.

Placement Experience

4

Students from all Undergraduate and Postgraduate courses can apply for placement. Usually, the college informs us via text or emails, and opportunities are given every three months. The placement record of BESC is high. In these drives, you can apply for a number of companies and then select according to your preference. They also conduct training courses and mentoring sessions. After completing my MA in English, I plan to apply for a full-time job.

Fees and Financial Aid

We have two semesters per year, and for each semester we have to pay about ?22,550. I have not applied for any Scholarships, so I don't know about that. But, regarding any financial difficulties the college authorities can be contacted for consideration such as extension of the last date of payment, paying in parts, etc.

Campus Life

5

Our annual fest Umang is very famous. Celebrities and participants from different colleges join us. Fashion shows, dance, music, art, and many other events take place. It takes place for about four days in the winter season, around December. We have an excellent air-conditioned library. From guidebooks, studying areas, computers, etc. the ambiance is beautiful and quiet. We can issue books and take them home too for a period of time. The college will inform you if you are late to submit a book via text, you can also reissue it. Our classrooms are all air-conditioned, and the class is provided with projectors. Currently, due to the Covid situation, we are having online classes via Google Classroom, GMeet, and Gmail. We can also be connected with the professors on WhatsApp. Bhawanipur Education Society College offers various sports and extra-curricular options. We have a basketball court, and also a separate sports arena for games like billiards, chess, table tennis, carrom, darts, etc.

Placement Experience:

Most of the placements that took place at least for the literature departments ended up with people joining educational institutes and NGOs. Very few joined corporate enterprises like Accenture. But it does provide almost a 5 LPA, if well placed. It is academically rigorous, therefore academics are weighed more than industry.

Placement Experience:

Students are eligible for applying for internships after the 3rd semester, and students can apply for placements only after 4th semester. Companies like Ericsson, Ernst and Young, JPMG makes visits our department for mostly analyst roles for economic and fundamental trading decisions. The highest offer made was 45LPA while the average is 7.5LPA. The median pakage is 8LPA. Almost 90% students secure placements after completing their degree since the Training and placement cell is pretty proactive in securing good company visits. I plan for investing and analyst roles in banking companies. I would sit for placements hoping for the same.
