An Honest Review to G.H.P.atel college of Engineering and Technology (GCET)

I basically applied through a centralised counselling ACPC (admission committee for professional courses). I applied to all the good engineering colleges of Gujarat like Nirma University, DDIT, BVM, MSU, LD, GCET. Based on my merit, I got admission to GCET in the Mechatronics engineering department. I choose this department as it is related to automation and robotics. So keeping futuristic aspects in my mind, I choose mechatronics engineering over mechanical engineering. GCET is providing one of the best programs for this branch in Gujarat.

I choose mechatronics engineering as it is related to robotics and automation, which is futuristic branches of Engineering. There are enough faculties specialised in various areas available in this department. Most of the faculties are PhD and some of the faculties have done their PhD from IITs (Delhi, Roorkee). Some new faculties are not good. But old faculties are awesome. Faculties for managerial subjects is also so wonderful. The Head of the department is very well graduated from premium institutes of India. He is guiding all the faculties in a nice way and he himself is also great faculty with amazing technical knowledge.

Infosys is coming for software developers. TCS is also for software developers. Fanuc India for graduate engineer trainee. Rane group for the same. Not many companies are coming for internships, but for recruitment, many companies are visiting the campus. Interested students are normally finding their internships off campus in GIDC. Many internship opportunities are available in Vallabh Vidyanagar, Vadodara and Ahmedabad. Some of the good projects that have been done from this college are Robo snack, laser engraving machine, 3D printing machine, deep learning and machine learning based projects.

Students are eligible for placement in their final year that is from the 7th semester. And companies will start visiting the campus in August. Placements are good for computer science and information technology branches. But for the rest of the branches placements are not so good. Companies like Infosys and TCS are allowing students from all branches to appear for an interview. L&T, Godrej, MG Motors, Byzus, Capgemini, are few companies visiting the campus of this college. The highest package goes to 8-9 LPA. And lowest package goes to around 1.2 LPA. The average package of this college is 3.5 LPA. The percentage of students in Malli getting a place is 50 to 60%. All the college is trying to show that placement percentage is 80 to 90% which is not at all correct.

Tuition Fees : 1,11,000 per year (as per 2015 batch) Hostel Fees: around 42000 per year You can also choose hostels outside of college which are cheap in rate and good. As this college is located in Vallabh Vidyanagar, you can find many good hostels around. Scholarship: MYSY (Mukhymantri Yuva Swabalamban Yojana) (50000 per year + 12000 for hostel per year). But please note that this scholarship is available only for those students who are having percentile rank 90+ and having family income less than 4 lakh per annum. The annual fest which is conducted in this college is IMAZE. This fest is normally conducted in February or April of every year. Library facility is good. All the technical books are available in library. But the quantity of books are not so much high so you have to be e quick enough to issue the book. Also you can keep it for 14 days with you. Also not that library is not facilitated with ac. If I talk about classroom then classrooms are also not facilitated with ac. AC is there only in some computer science labs. Some departments and some classes are having new branches and most of the classes are having old benches which is not so much comfortable. There is no as such on sports ground of colleges available. But if you want to play then there are some paid grounds available where you can go and play. Every year college is conducting sports tournaments for all the branches. College students are also participating in state level and national level sports competitions.

The hostel is good. But the director is not so responsible to keep the hostel clean. Sometimes students are also facing the issue of drinking water. If I talk about cleanliness then this is also an issue of the hostel. The room of the hostel is good enough. The quality of food is very bad here. You will normally get Gujarati food in the afternoon and night. The quality of roti sabji daals is worst. I have many times found insects in my food in the hostel in mess. The hostel is not at all affordable is there including mess charges in it. The registration process is simple college itself is giving admissions directly into hostels.
