Entrance Preview
I gave the IIT JEE for admission to this college. I had interest only in Mechanical Engineering. So i gave my preferences in order of last year cut-offs without researching much on the colleges.
Course Curriculum Overview
The curriculum is a bit more difficult than people would expect. I am in the first year and there is a huge jump in terms of difficulty. I got 99 in maths in boards and coming to college I got 50 out of 100. There's a lot to cover and not enough time to explain everything in detail. Although most of what I speak is on the basis of the curriculum of the 1st semester itself.
Internships Opportunities
Although I'm not sure about this but I don't think internships are provided by the college. We have to apply to the companies ourselves.
Placement Experience
In terms of placements our college is very reputed. This is because it has been established since a very long time and it is a government engineering college. We get amazing placements from our college every year. Many MNCs come to our institute to conduct interviews. The highest package received by a student was a bit over 1 crore.
College Events
Our college mainly hosts 2 events every year. Avishkar is the name of our technical fest where many workshops are held like robotics, aero modelling, electromania etc. People come from different colleges to participate in the several competitions held and win prizes.
Fee Structure And Facilities
The fees for this college is pretty nominal. You have to pay around 70000 for every semester which makes a total of 5-6 lakh ffor the whole 4 year duration. Apart from this you can get really heavy scholarships if you belong to SC, ST or OBC category or other categories which include 'salary below 1 lakh', 'board topper scholarship etc.
Fees and Financial Aid
There are several scholarship programs offered by our college. These include 'below 1 lakh income', 'single girl child', 'SC/ST/OBC Scholarpship', 'Board Topper Scheme'.
Alumni/Alumna
As I am new to the college, I have very less knowledge about the alumni network of this institution. But according to my seniors, the academic network of this college is very strong and can help a lot in the future for jobs in India. An alumni meet is held every year in our college where current students get to interact with the alumni.
Exam Structure
The exam structure is very similar to what most schools have. Each year is divided into two semesters. In each semester there are mid semester exams which are for 1.5 hours (each paper) and end semester exams which are for 3 hours. For most subjects the marks for mid semester are 20 whereas for end semester is 60. The rest of the 20 marks are given on the basis of teachers assessment.
Admission
After getting the JEE rank, I got admission into VNIT, Nagpur initially. After that I went to NIT Rourkela (which was the reporting centre for document verification in Odisha, my state) and got my documents verified. And after that I put my preference on float, which means I'll automatically get admission into an institute which was given more preference by me if the seats go vacant in the subsequent rounds.
Faculty
The type of faculty of this college is like most other colleges. Some professors are great, some good, some not so much. There are a few who have been teaching here for many years and you can see the frustration on their faces. They are quite irritable and are not that friendly with students. They are very miser when it comes to giving marks. But there are a few who are really interested in what they teach.
