Sukhjeet Singh Gulati's Review On Christ University, Bangalore

I gave an interview in Bangalore. It went pretty well because I was confident and well versed with my subjects. Christ University had been my preference since an early age because I was determined to do BCA and become a software engineer. A survey conducted by the Nielsen Group showed that Christ University is the #1 college in India for BCA and so I made it my target to get into this college.

As far as I am concerned the course structure is maintained well. Partly because it covers all relevant subjects and partly because it is not very dynamic but does change according to the industry need. I have no way of comparing it with the other colleges but I did refer with my friend who is studying in Delhi for the same course. Both the colleges had almost the same curriculum, give or take some subjects.

Yes, Christ University provides internships but it is only for some courses. For my course we are not provided any internship from the college itself. During the summer vacations I applied and got selected for an internship on my own without the help by the college.

As far as I have heard from my seniors, good companies come for placements. Ernst & Young, Deloitte, Wipro, TCS, etc. are some of the well known companies that come during the on-campus placements. Last year Goldman Sachs also entered. The lowest package offered was 3 lakhs while the average package was 3.5 lakhs. All the people from BCA were successfully placed.

There are many events that happen during a year. Every department holds their own fest which include management, arts, science, etc. They all include different things like quizzes, startup idea pitchings, dance and singing, etc. But most of these are just for the college students. A few of them include national level fests but they are dynamic and are made and remade every year.

There is no loan facility that is available. But there are Awards for excellence, Awards for proficiency and Awards for co-curricular activities. There are also merit scholarships which are decided upon pre-entry marks, mid-semester examination marks and attendance.

There is a fair amount of girls, but it depends on course to course. For example in BCA, in a class of 80 there are only 15 girls. However in an English Honours class of 65 there are 40 girls. There is a lot of diversity including people from Korea, Africa, UAE, China, Malaysia, Nepal, etc. There are guests from USA, Germany ,etc. almost every month. They often participate in college activities as well.

There has been 2 instances in these 2 years I have studied, that a couple of alumnus from our course have come to help us understand the industry requirements and how have there studies helped them. I took advantage of both the times and asked a lot of questions. I believe those interactions really helped me a make a good career decision.

There are mid-sem examinations which happen exactly after two months of the beginning of the semester. They are of 50 marks and we are given 2 hours for each exam. There are also lab exams during this time. These exams are very chilled out because they only cover about 40% of the course. Also the practical exams during the mid and end semester are easy and only take 2-3 hours at max.

I had filled the form online and the interview details along with the other details were displayed right then. The only criteria of judgement was an interview, but that itself was a very rigorous process and covered all the aspects from describing myself to covering the computer science subjects. I showed all my merit and excellence certificates along with my extra curricular participation certifications to please the interviewers.

I have seen extremely dedicated and good professors who not only have a plethora of knowledge but are also interested in sharing this information with other students. Almost all the teachers are happy individuals who help the students in any way possible. I have seen many subjects taken up by the the same teachers but that does not mean that they fall short in providing the same kind of information.
