Remarks
I applied to KJSIMSR and SIESCOMS apart from Welinkar, Mumbai. I could not make it through the admission processes of both the colleges hence joining Welingkar (which I converted) was the best option I had. The minimum cut-off for the core PG courses was somewhere around 80 percentile in CAT and for the other courses (Ebiz, Business Design, Healthcare, and the likes), it was around 75 percentile. Also, Welingkar considers your entire profile while admission. To begin with, we first had a document verification process and then had the introductory session on Welingkar and its courses. The admission process consisted of two rounds, namely Group discussion and Personal Interview. After the introductory session, we were divided into groups of 8 for the completion of the GD rounds. Post the GD phase there was a final interview round. The admission process was smooth overall.
Course Curriculum Overview
I am very passionate to learn about media and I realized a management degree in this field will boost my career. The number of students per year is 720 and the number of faculties (in-house and guest lecturers) is around 50. The teaching method of the faculties is very interactive. They are literally trying their best to give us an offline classroom feeling during their lockdown days. They are subject matter experts and always clear our doubts proactively. We have trimesters, hence we have exams after every 3 months. If one is thorough with the basics, it is not at all difficult to pass.
Internships Opportunities
A lot of companies did come for the internship process, the highlights being, Jio Creative Labs, Jio Saavn, SABIC, Godrej, Siemens, Infosys, Big Basket, TCS, The Outlook group among others. The roles offered were mainly in the domains of digital marketing, social media marketing, marketing communications, advertisement product interns, creative thinking and designing, corporate communications, sales & marketing.
Placement Experience
Students become eligible for campus placements from the 5th trimester. For the Media & Entertainment batch of (2019-2021) companies like Axis Bank, RBL Bank, IDFC First Bank, Deloitte USI, Vedanta Group, Viacom 18, Infosys, JioSaavn visited the campus. The highest package was somewhere around 12 L.P.A. and the average package was somewhere around 7-8 L.P.A. The profiles offered were mainly Brand marketing, Management trainee- product development, Digital Sales and Channel Migration, Pre Sales Manager, Management Trainee- Customer success, Senior Business Development Associate, Relationship Manager Even in these challenging times, Welingkar successfully managed to place 95 percent of the students of the Media & Entertainment batch. I plan to work to be a content marketer post completing my degree.
Fees and Financial Aid
The total fee for 2 years (batch of 2020-2022) at Welingkar is 11 lakhs, payable at 4 installments of 2.75 lakhs each. I am currently in my 2nd year hence have not bagged a job from the college yet. I did not receive any scholarship and I did not apply for any financial assistance norms, hence cannot comment on that.
Campus Life
Post the pandemic, there has not been an annual/tech fest in the college. There was a cultural event called "Karvaan", which was conducted by the students of the "Media & Entertainment" course (the course I am a part of). A lot of books are available in our library, we have been given online access to them (since we have not visited the campus) There is a cricket tournament conducted by Welingkar called "IMPACT". This is a very famous league and happens every year(barring the year's post-pandemic). Cultural events like "Karvaan" (already mentioned above) happen at least once a year. It is a very good platform for students to showcase their extracurricular skills (singing, recitation, etc). There is a placement committee and a management committee of every department headed by the General Secretary and the Placement secretary of that department respectively. Also, there is a monthly e-magazine run by the students of We School, called Samvad.
Interview Experience
We had two rounds in the admission process namely a group discussion and a personal interview. The topic of the Group discussion was how the national and global economy has changed in recent years. The GD was not a fish market at all and everyone was able to put forward his/her views regarding the topic. There was a personal interview process post the GD round. The questions were mainly on my work experience, my likes, and interests and on why did I shift to media being an engineering student. I used to go through Times of India daily (not the newspaper though, the mobile app) to keep myself abreast with the current happenings of the world. I gave extra attention to the fields of economy, politics, sports, and media. I studied about my hometown, brushed up my graduation basics, and prepared myself for any questions based on my hobbies as well.
