Remarks
The college adheres to all quality standards without breaching any. But there is no X factor in it, barring a couple of professors who happen to be the flagship assets to the institution, who bring about an element of excellence to the institution which is otherwise ordinary. The incumbent Dean and Director is a man of principles who lends a patient and comforting ear to all students. He is a students' teacher and a very cheerful man. The management is quite stringent when it comes to putting their policies into practice. But if I could turn time back, I'd make wiser choices. And I shall most certainly cherish the classes of Professor Jayanth, Dr. DRP Chandra Sekhar, and Dr. U. Devi Prasad for years to come.
Entrance Preview
CAT, 70+ Percentile, The brand value that GITAM carries/carried. After the aptitude screening and group discussion rounds, there was a round consisting of personal interviews which had two interviewers asking questions on General Knowledge of the under graduate course the candidate graduated in.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course structure is very concise, and application and outcome oriented, packed with the right quanta of information that equips an individual to metamorphose into an able Manager. Particularly courses such as Managerial Economics, Corporate Governance and Business Ethics, Business Communication, Written Analysis and Communication are building blocks that form the rudimentary inventory of knowledge for the interested candidates.
Internships Opportunities
The college brings in companies willingly seeking summer interns. The general stipend is at around Rs. 4000/-. As is the case anywhere, better performers make better dough. Since I am in the maiden year of the course, I am yet to serve my internship. From what I heard from my seniors in the hostel, they seem to have nothing but love for the organisations they interned with and brought back nothing but back fresh and sweet memories and fat paychecks.
Placement Experience
The placements and jobs are not particularly impressive, but a man's got to eat. The college brings in companies willing to place us for fairly decent salaries with decent job profiles. The placement is a sure thing, but not very yielding. Everybody gets to eat, but not a scrumptious meal.
College Events
Very ceremoniously, the college conducts events to pool the minds of students from various institutions and involve them in brainstorming and recreational activities in order to encourage them to become able managers of tomorrow. The scale of the events are moderate and satisfactory. Lakshya and Gusto happen to be sports events. Colosseum is an event that tests the overall development of candidates.
Fee Structure And Facilities
The fees structure is quite affordable but more value can be obtained for the money. It is a little over Rs. 6 lacs. But that is the average investment one has to make to be seated in a decent B School. Since the placements are highly likely to happen, an investment of 6 lacs is worth it. The Return on Investment seems to be fairly alright, both fiduciary and otherwise.
Fees and Financial Aid
The loan facilities are all very simple and trouble free. The processes to avail the loan are very smooth sailing. Every student qualifying to take admission in the college is provided with the choice of availing loan services from certain banks.
Campus Life
The campus life, to summarize, I would say is not too bad. It is an experience that is a mixture of all feelings in equal and essential proportions. The gender ratio is very satisfactory with high a percentage of women enrollment. The college is very enthusiastic in conducting and participating in extracurricular activities which help a candidate to grow not just linearly, but also laterally.
Hostel Facilities
The hostels meet all quality standards with little or negligible reason to contemplate. All students are allocated dorm rooms with 4 beds each and 4 cupboards that are fairly spacious to accommodate a student's belongings. It would be foolish to expect 3 star accommodations since it is a matter of scale. Fitness enthusiasts may not be particularly impressed with the infrastructure or the food provisions. The security they provide is start of the art, disallowing students to leave the hostel premises after 6pm and informing the parents of 'PG' students' wherabouts day in and day out. The average rentals vary from around Rs.4000/- to Rs. 7000/- each month. There are no luxury or deluxe room provisions. All of us are led to 4 bedded dorms with toilets situated away from the bedrooms. The hostel has common toilets for all students on each floor. The food is edible and the water is potable.
Alumni/Alumna
The senior students have been very cooperative in terms of providing the junior students with all pertinent information sought. They are all very amicable and affable people who have treated us with a great deal of compassion and patience.
Exam Structure
The labs and exams are very well organised with not too much exam day frenzy. The exams are very well planned with not much scope for malpractices. They are well designed to test an individual's aptitude for management while conforming to the time stipulations.
Faculty
Not all colleges have all sine-qua-non faculty. But there is no denying that this college possesses a handful of very bright and insightful professors. As professional as can be. As there are two sides to a coin, there are also a handful that aren't as impressive as the immaculate professors that HBS happens to possess. But there are none that fail to deliver the content of the curriculum. When I say immaculate, these professors not only deliver the contents of the books, but also fill the candidate with information that can help him/her grow constructively as a human being.
