Remarks
My priority in the counseling process was the IITM ED branch as my rank was around 8900. I got this branch in 1st round of counseling, so it was confirmed for me to avail this college. As my rank was around 8900, so it's obvious that I availed some quota for taking Engineering Design in IIT Madras and it was GEN-EWS category. My program had not some special admission criteria, it was very normal like minimum marks were 120 marks in JEE ADVANCED and the minimum age was not any specific. The admission process was all online, so after the 5th round of counseling which is the final round I got IITM ED branch(same as in the previous 4 rounds), it was confirmed that I was going to pursue this 5-year B.tech + M.tech course. I researched this branch about its syllabus and many more. As it was not the branch of my special interest or something. I had never prioritized any branch or subject to take in college, my very first goal was to take the best college I can get.
Course Curriculum Overview
I chose this course because it was the best-ranked branch in the best college in India. My batch strength is 73 and there are 5 subjects per semester, so there are 5 faculties for 73 students. So, the Ratio is 5:73. Some faculties are researchers in their fields, some are themselves IITM qualified. Their teaching methodology is quite professional. They try to teach students to their level of research, if they are discussing a topic, they will cover it as far as they know about that. The end sem exams were on time and offline. It was quite average and passing it was not tough as I had already read all the topics taught in class.
Internships Opportunities
Our branch students generally try in getting internships related to programming or other branch opportunities. Because after the 8th semester we get to choose between the three fields named IDDD fields. We have to choose between robotics, biological instruments, and automobile designing. They are basically based on your interest and marks you have scored so far before the 8th semester.
Placement Experience
10th sem onwards students become eligible for placements in my branch. So many companies visit my branch to recruit students as per their choice and ample amount of offers made by them. The highest placement this year recorded was around 19lakhs per annum. and the average was around 12lakhs per annum. Almost all of the students got placed whether it be core or non-core placements. My plans are oriented towards a startup.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fee is quite high as a compared general course of a general college in India. It is 13 lakhs of 5 years course, so basically it is 2,60000 per year. I did apply for many scholarships in 1st year and unluckily didn't get any. Financial assistance is good as they don't force u to pay the semester fee in time. you can pay them any time but not late than a year. I am in 2nd year now, next year I'll apply for some paid internships. My course doesn't provide a stipend but it gives a good amount of packages, on average be like 12 lakhs per annum. So, basically, I m focusing on core jobs in my 5th year.
Campus Life
The annual main fest is named SAARANG and the tech fest is named SHASTRA. It happens in the month of Feb-March generally. My college library has more than 5000 books and the library has a very high-speed data connection and is fully AC customized. Although we are stuck in our places in this covid situation but still as far as I've heard the classrooms are very comfortable and fully AC customized. Sports facilities are also up to their level, if someone wants to go far opting sports career, he can go. There are many clubs related to various skills. There are many websites related to our class schedules ours too.
Hostel Facilities
The room is not so compacted as per pics available on the websites. The meal is average as it should on a college campus. The menu is kind of fixed. we get the same meal on the day as it is mentioned on the menu. The registration process is very easy and one can switch between north and south food if he/she wants. No, I chose the hostel to live in as it is very comfortable for me to live in.
