I took Tamil Nadu Engineering Entrance Examination. I opted for this college since it is near to my city, the fees were reasonable at that time, they had many college buses so my parents thought I need not risk in travelling by the crowd filled govt buses. Moreover the standard of education was reasonably good for a middle class family like us.

When I was entering the course the curriculum was not decided by the college but by Anna University. Only the autonomous colleges had the privilege of deciding their own syllabus. The course materials were more oriented on theory and the practical aspects were very minimal. Also the outgoing students when joined as freshers find the curriculum not helping them in getting the jobs which are available.

As far as I know my college do not provide internship of any kind. We used to do internship externally in any factories or research institutes.

During my student life in our college the on campus placements were very rare. In third year i.e. on 2007 we had off campus at a nearby college in which we have attended and many of our friends got placed in reputed company including myself. After that showing our achievement our college made arrangements for on campus for my juniors and now the placement and job opportunities are good.

Apart from Republic day, Independence day we celebrate sports day and annual day which would be like a festival. The management will bring any celebrities related to academics at the same time jovial with the students. Those days would be a great relief for the students who are tormented by the dry and boring Anna university syllabus.

The college by itself did not offer any loan facility. But the students were allowed to avail the scholarship provided by the government. Also the management gave some scholarship to first year students who has scored more than 90% in their 12th exam.

Our college was good it sports. They used to admit many students by sports quota and provided hostel, food and training for them. Our college was Anna university champion in many sports including basketball. They used to conduct symposiums at regular intervals. I attend quiz competition in all the symposiums and emerged as one of the prize winners every time.

My seniors helped me a lot in extra curricular activities like department magazine design, event organising activities, project management and in internships.

We have weekly tests and internal examinations which are used for calculating our internal marks out of 20. Then comes the semester examinations which are held by Anna University, Chennai. In that semester examinations we write for 100 which is later converted into 80 marks. Later the internal 20 and external 80 is added up to bring our marks out of 100.

I got the admission through the counselling held by Anna university at Thiyagarajar College of Engineering, Madurai. The process is we paid the counselling fee to the Anna university. Then they released a rank list. According to the rank list the schedule of counselling dates were announced. I attended the counselling on my allotted date and time and among few colleges.

Speaking about the faculties many talented persons were appointed as faculties in our college. They worked hard to improve the overall pass percentage of the students. But most of them were very strict like army officers. May be that was the instruction they got from the management. Among such people we got few faculties with a friendly smile. A faculty smiling at a student was like a festival in our college.
