Akshay Modi's Review On Vellore Institute Of Technology - [VIT University], Vellore

I wrote IIT JEE, BITSAT, and VITEEE. I scored 120 in IIT JEE, 259 in BITSAT, and got 6043 ranks in VIT-EEE. Among all other colleges, I opted for VIT Vellore because of the following reasons. I got selected on a merit basis.

The course is very well structured due to the reason it is accredited to ABET(Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology). The focus is on theory as well as practical also. Many Ph.D. programs are available which focus mainly on research. It accommodates the wants and needs of the entire student community as a whole.

Except for the mass companies like Accenture, TCS, Infosys, Cognizant, etc, the placed students may get one more offer from a Core company or a Software company that offered a better package. Software companies that offer more than 4 lakhs per annum are offered the ‘Dream status’. Companies like Microsoft, Amazon, De Shaw have recruited students with a package of more than 10 lakhs per annum.

Every year there are 2 major fests happening in the college technical and cultural fest. The cultural fest is known by name "Riviera" and technical as "Gravitas". Riviera is a very big fest as compared to gravitas. Around 10-15 thousand students along with faculties participate in the fests.

The fee structure gets fixed for 4 years at the student joins the college. It is increasing every year a new batch comes along with the number of students. The fee structure is expensive which can't be afforded by middle-class people. Approximately presently it comes around 8-10 lakhs as tuition fee for a student selected on merit basis which is very much as compared to mine which was 4.5 lakhs during 2011.

The college provides various scholarship programs to meritorious students who are financially backward in order to encourage them.

The Alumni network is very good and currently, I'm also a part of the alumni network. As soon as a student passes the college, he/she is asked to join an alumni network and through this many students new to the college get benefited by interacting with the seniors. It is the place where seniors share their experiences and guide students(junior).

Frankly speaking the frequency of the exams used to be too much. We had our exams almost every month, that too theory papers along with lab exams. So it used to be hectic but not all the time because again it depends on the student how he chooses his curriculum because of FFCS (Fully flexible credit system).

First, I wrote the VIT-EEE exam and then got selected for the admission process on a merit basis. Then the process of counseling started after 1 and a half months of result declaration. Then I was asked to attend the counseling which was held on the campus where I was asked to choose the stream as per my rank. Finally, I got the Electronics and communication branch selected by me.

The faculty of the college is very good in every aspect. They are highly qualified and experienced. Most of them are from abroad universities and consequently very efficient in research work.
