Entrance Preview

I took IIT JEE and AIEEE. I Scored 1046 rank in category and got into IIT Chennai. I took Biotechnology Branch. I had few other options in IIT Delhi and Kharagpur. But my parents wouldn't send me that far and Chennai is near from my place (Andhra Pradesh).

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

Biotechnology course structure was nearly perfect but the other electives like management, finance, economics etc were only limited to few people which was bad and Those electives played a major role during placements. Those who couldn't do those electives were given last preference during placements.

Internships Opportunities

Internship is a mandatory thing in this college. Few MNC's came and took few students by giving them good amount of money. Few other students got internships with the help of their faculty. Few other students got their internships online. Internship would be a good experience of what actually happens in a company and I would atleast 2 internships for the better exposure.

Placement Experience

3.5

They say 100% placements but which is false. Nearly 150 companies came and most of them gave packages from 7 lpa to 20 lpa. There were few companies which gave packages from 3 lpa to 7 lpa too. Most of them were software based companies. Very few companies were looking for management trainees, analysts, consultants and finance based jobs.

College Events

4.5

Technical festival - Shastra and Cultural festival - Saarang. They are pretty famous and celebrated in a big way. The people who gets to work in these are decided few months before and the work is done accordingly. There will be Cores, Super coordinators, Coordinators and Volunteers. Selecting candidates for these posts will be done in an unfair way called college politics.

Fee Structure And Facilities

Fee structure was feasible for our batch. There were merit-based scholarships and many other scholarships on top of that. There were also student loans to help the needy. It was somewhere around 60 k for a semester for general candidates. For category students it was somewhere around 20 k for a semester.

Fees and Financial Aid

I have a friend who has availed loan facility from state bank of India. He has received the entire amount along with the laptop. The amount should be repaid after a year of passing out on a monthly basis. There are many other merit based scholarships and scholarships based on the parents income. The list of all the scholarships will be given before joining the college so the students can apply for that accordingly.

Campus Life

5

The gender ratio was 3:1 (boys: girls). The campus was the best thing with all the trees, deers and many other animals. It was like a well-maintained zoo park except it was safe for everyone to walk around. It's a different feeling living in the lap of nature. People from all over India gather here. Few from other countries too. But nearly 50% or more people used to be from Andhra Pradesh.

Alumni/Alumna

In the First year of college, seniors are assigned to everyone for the clarification of doubts and to help them during the initial days of college. When it comes to alumni, they come once in a while to give talks on the types of jobs and life in those jobs.

Exam Structure

Exams and labs were pretty okay giving the students ample amount of time for the extracurricular activities. But the syllabus and material for the exam were given just a few days before the exam. Presentations which were discussed in the class were mailed by a class coordinator 2,3 days before the exam.

Admission

Everything was online initially. I have uploaded documents online, transferred payment through demand draft and selected my options for the branch(biotechnology). Final verification of documents was done in person by a group of students in the college.

Faculty

4

They are well qualified and experienced. Few of the faculty members were very friendly, made classes more interactive and interesting with presentations and real life examples. Few of them very bad too in a way by not giving a chance for the failed students. When people fail in the exam they should actually be given a chance to write a supplementary exam.

Specific schedule is not followed in college regarding the academic and co curricular activities. Sudden decisions will be taken by the management which is a bit difficult for the students and faculty too. There were times where faculties are fed up of management rules and decisions.

Placement Experience:

1.) Placement begins from the pre-final year and we are allowed to apply for companies from the final year. 2.) Around 70% of the class gets placed in reputed companies with an average CTC of 4-8 LPA. 3.) Along with core biotech companies, many IT companies are also hiring students at a very decent package. 4.) I plan to pursue a master's after this course.

The students become elgible for placements right from the 5th semester of their course work. The students who have no standing arrears become elgibile in the first place. There are many companies visiting the college where Infosys, Cognizant, Virtusa are the mass recruiters. The are many other companies like TCS, Wipro, Zoho etc. visiting the college placement drive. On overall 90% of students gets placed every year. The highest package of 25lakhs per annum was offered by amazon for 3 students. My plans after getting degree is to get placed in any of the company.
