Remarks
I had applied for NIT Rourkela, Integrated Physics programme but I vacated the seat when I was allotted in IISER Bhopal. Because NITs are meant to be technical oriented but IISERs are meant to be purely research oriented. Yes, I availed a quota which was Gen-EWS. If you're general then rank below 10k in JEE advanced but if you've EWS reservation then it completely depends on your luck if you don't rank within 10k. My admissions and counsellings were held online so everything went smoothly.
Course Curriculum Overview
I choose the BSMS DUAL DEGREE programme simply because I love physics. Faculty: student ratio is quite good here in IISER Bhopal. There is no single doubt about the qualifications of any faculty, each and everyone is a highly decorated person in their field but when it comes to teaching, not everyone is as good as you expect. There happened a lot of exams, like a lot, it felt a lot because of two reasons. 1) Our first year was reduced to 6 months duration so everything got tightly packed. 2) Change in the grading policy, shifting from midsem and endsem exams to continuous assessments. About how difficult was to pass, you can easily pass the score if you have done your duties but the main issue is good grades, this is very difficult.
Internships Opportunities
I'm currently a project intern at Miranda house, DU and Stockholm University, Sweden. Projects are meant to be totally skills exposure so you don't really have a stipend. You'll only get a stipend when you join an internship programme via portal.
Placement Experience
The natural sciences department don't have a placement cell but there happened some placements from the chemistry department in the past. Here, people plan to do PhD in preferably foreign institutions, and this is where IISER Bhopal helps. It has a lot of campus tie ups around the globe which can give a headstart when you're searching for PhDs. Besides our BS engineering and BS economics departments do have a placement cell but they're very new so we don't have an average data.
Fees and Financial Aid
Talking about fees, it's actually one of the cheapest colleges in India where you can get high quality of education. No special scholarship is provided here except for INSPIRE. I wasn't qualified to avail for INSPIRE fellowship so I don't really have any financial assistance.
Campus Life
Well, all I have done is online so I might not be able to give the perfect review for this section. But here happens one Science fest, Singularity, which is one of the biggest Science fests in India, where loads of Science activities and lectures by highly decorated scientists and researchers are given. Besides singularity, we have Enthuzia, the cultural fest of IISER Bhopal, it is one of the best cult fests in India when it used to happen offline, in the past, we had Anubhav Singh Bassi to Sunburn. You can find almost every book in the field of science in our library both in hard copy and soft copy. I haven't seen the classroom yet so no idea about that. Sports is one of the most active activities in our college from badminton court to carton, we have almost every sport in our campus, besides that we also have Inter IISER sports meet, where we get a chance to represent our institute in the annual inter college sports event. About clubs, we have truckloads of them.
Hostel Facilities
Not visited the campus as of now, so can't comment on that. But what I have heard is the food quality is actually very nice in general. Concerning the menu, you can customise your menu after consulting your elected Mess Representative. Mess charges are about 3000 per month.
