Honest review about karunya

After 12th I started searching for good colleges with the best placement opportunities. As I came to know about more anna university colleges in my hometown treating students like school kids, I agitated to join any of those anna university colleges. Then I searched for deemed universities offering biomedical engineering. Finally, i was satisfied with Karunya University. I never applied for any other colleges. By that time I wasn't aware of Karunya entrance( KEE). So I was admitted with a management quota. It was spot admission. Before the admission process, i was counseled about the course by 2 faculty members from the biomedical department. Then I was asked to pay 50,000 to confirm admission. There are no minimum marks to get admission in karunya. One needs to pass the 12th/diploma to join with karunya family. The top 100 students of KEE can get waiver scholarships. Students who give KEE will be called for counseling. The counseling will be conducted in one of the Auditoriums in karunya main campus.

I always wanted to work in the healthcare sector. My cut-off was low to get into medical college. Then I came to know about this course. It was very interesting hence the course was completely about medical devices. Without any second option, I chose this course. I decided to gain more practical knowledge than theoretical. Hence I searched for colleges with good lab setups. Then I came up with karunya university. They have a Biomedical Instrumentation lab with more than 12 devices. Biosignal processing lab is also there in karunya. About 15 faculty members with doctorate degrees (Ph.D.) and 3 lab technicians are working in the biomedical department. They are highly skilled professionals. There were totally of 33 students in my class. They never show themselves as faculties. They were very friendly. They won't pressurize students. We can grasp the contents easily because of clarity in staff's teaching and surely pass with good grades. There was 3 internals conducted in an interval of 2 months per semester.

In India, Karunya and Manipal are the universities having IAESTE program means student exchange program. Karunya institute has tie up with most of the foreign universities and companies. So students who wish to experience a different cultures, and explore things can get their internship offer in different places after clearing the interview conduct by the IAESTE committee. They can also get a stipend for their work. A student who get placed in companies with internship offers can do their internship in the company itself with a stipend. The internship is compulsory in order to complete the course. It is part of the course. Hence all other students should search for companies and ensure their work is done. Students can do their final year project either in the university or in other companies. If students wish to do it outside college they can choose it as a full sem project and they get 18 credits. Doing a project in college is considered a half sem project and 12 credits will be awarded after review.

Campus placement is offered in karunya university. Every year around 80% of the eligible students were placed. Some of the notable recruiters are Nutanix, TCS, Accenture, Byju's, Infosys, Zoho. There are about 500+ offers made totally. The highest package is anywhere between 12lac/annum to 18lac/annum. But only about 5% of the students will get selected for this package mainly from CS department.The main drawback is that there will be only a limited no of core companies visiting for campus recruitment. For biosciences, the top recruiters are only from Zifo, Nestle, and from some startup companies. Other than that most of the students will get placed in good companies where the package ranges anywhere between 1.8lac/annum to 4lac/annum. From the 6th semester, students will get placement training. The management is working to bring more core companies, so in the future students will get even more placement opportunities. My plan is to get into the government sector and I'm working on it while pursuing maters.

The total fee of this course is around 11 lakhs. But students obtained above 95% marks in PCB/PCM will get merit scholarship up to 1,20,000. Students secured above 95% marks in diploma also get scholarships up to 1,20,000. JEE(main) cleared candidates with 95% and above get 1,20,000 INR and with 90% and above will get 60000 INR per year. As it is a Christian minority institution Young partner in Jesus calls ministry will get some concession. And siblings or kids of Karunya alumni will also get some reduction in the fee. While doing B. Tech we cannot expect any on-campus job for financial assistance. But for the M.Tech program, there are many scholarships available with respect to CGPA. Students above 9.5 cgpa will get 1 lakh as scholarship, 9 &above- 90000, 8&above- 80000, 7&above- 70000 per year. And there is on campus job available for students doing masters. If they placed in the company they can work in the evening times and earn around 15000 per month.

As karunya is the Christian minority institution students cannot expect anything related to cinema inside the campus. Every nontechnical event conducted there will be totally religious. Hence nonchristian students could feel it as a major con. Mega play is the mega nontechnical event conducted in karunya before Christmas. Mindcraft is the technical event conducted every year in the month of March where students can showcase their talents, technical skills and win prizes. It is a 3day event and students can enjoy it to the fullest. Other than this there are so many departments events. Karunya has a huge library with 3 floors with almost every book and journal. The classrooms are digitally equipped and have good ventilation. There are sports teams and many dance crew inside karunya. There are also many clubs in karunya ie., Music, Nature, Photography, NCC, NSS, Outreach etc.. Students should be a part of any of these clubs to earn their nonacademic credit.

If you want to experience heaven on earth then Karunya hostel is the best place, especially girls Hostel. The Hostel atmosphere and the scenery is breathtaking. The registration process is simple and the fee is affordable. We can select our roommate. There is a separate hostel campus for both boys and girls. There is about 8 hostel for boys and 5 hostels for girls with single, four and six bedded rooms. More than boys hostel campus,girls campuses have more facilities. Both Ac and non Ac rooms are available. Inside the girl's hostel campus 2 beauty parlors and more than 10 shops are available.We can buy everything from variety of food items, dresses to cosmetics inside the campus. The only con is that female students will not be allowed for outings.If in an emergency they can go with caretakers.No boys is allowed inside girls campus. If parents want to keep their children in a safer place, then karunya is the better option. The mess food is awesome with a different menus such as Tamil, Kerala, Andhra, north, and NRI.
