Entrance Preview

I gave IIT JEE, AIEEE and BITSAT after my 12th board. I got admission to BITS through my BITSAT score which was 310/350.

Course Curriculum Overview

4

We had 6 courses every semester. The first year was the same for everyone irrespective of the stream. Thereafter the courses were fixed but we had choices of taking 1-2 electives per semester based on the workload and the stream that you are in. Not all electives were open to everyone.

Internships Opportunities

Yes, we had something called the practice school. It was held after the second year and just before graduating. Students were alloted an internship location based on their GPA and stream. The PS1 after second year was almost always without any stipend. The PS2 was almost always with a stipend.

Placement Experience

4

The placements are good but depending on how the economy is performing so they were not that great between 2008-2010. Most of the big companies like Microsoft, Google and Apple as well as Flipkart, Cisco were recruiting on campus and made offers as well.

College Events

1.5

We had the technical festival called Quark and cultural festival called waves. The participation was between 4000-5000 people from nearby colleges as well cities. The sponsorship in earlier years was measure but it grew later on and we were able to get the best celebrities to our festivals.

Fee Structure And Facilities

Since its a private college the fees are a bit on the higher side but it is overall very feasible for a middle-class family. The fees was around 1 lac per semester between 2007-2011. There are also loans and scholarships available to those who cannot afford to pay the fees.

Fees and Financial Aid

I did not avail of any loan or scholarship but I know some people who did. It was mostly loans through SBI on campus or scholarships for those with high GPA in their first year.

Campus Life

3.5

The gender ratio was 1:6 for women:men. The extracurricular activities were very limited and definitely not encouraged. The labs were good and on par with the theoretical material that was taught in the curriculum. Overall, my experience was that the campus environment is extremely racist towards those who came from a particular part of India and also to those belonging to minority religions.

Exam Structure

We had 3 exams every semester. The Test1 was held approximately 45 days after the beginning of the semester, thereafter the Test2 was help after another month and finally the comprehensive exams were held at the very end of the semester. The lab exams were held mostly every week during the labs itself.

Admission

The exam was held in a computer aided testing centre. We were then given a score instantly after the exam got over which was out of 450. Thereafter we were asked to apply online based on those whose scores exceeded the cutoff. Thereafter we had to select the stream we were interested in.

Faculty

4

I think the faculty were okay overall. Some of them were really good but some were terrible. I feel there should be a strict criteria of having atleast a PhD for the faculty position which was not the case. Most of the faculty members were only bachelors.

Placement Experience:

Students can start sitting in placements from the start of 4th year , when the Placement Division starts bringing companies to the campus. The average package for CS is around 20-26 LPA, for Electrical branches it's around 18-24 LPA and for Mechanical and Chemical it is around 13-16 LPA. These figures would've changed though from the last time I saw. Around 85-90% of the students get placed usually. Top notch companies like Google, Microsoft , DE Shaw, Arcesium Cohesity Rubrick recruit students every year for the tech roles and other prominent companies like Flipkart, Sprinkle, Intuiut and Coin Switch come for managerial roles as well. There is even a chance of getting a PPO through Summer Internship Program which kikstarts in the 3rd year where students compete to get internship in these top companies. Overall , BITS Goa has impeccable placement statistics

Placement Experience:

I have no clue but the highest placements are in Computer and IT branches. Civil has probably the least placement. The quality is good thanks to IIT and NIT being in the same campus thus the big companies that come to those colleges also come to our colleges but they prefer those students more because NIT and IIT are more prestigious colleges.
