Remarks
Applied for IIT'S/NIT'S and BITS only and decided to go to BITS because I was getting a circuital branch here. I didn't avail any quota for admission because BITS follows a strictly no-quota policy. Admission to all campuses of BITS is strictly based on your performance in the BITSAT exam conducted every year. After taking the BITSAT exam you will be invited to register for the admission process and then there will be 6 iterations where various streams will be offered based on your BITSAT score.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum is very industry-friendly and is updated regularly to be in sync with the real world. The faculty: student ratio is quite healthy and stands currently at 1:20. All the faculty are highly qualified with the majority of them holding a PhD degree and their teaching method is highly interactive. Term exams are conducted at the end of every semester with mid-semester and other quizzes conducted quite frequently in between a semester.
Internships Opportunities
BITS run their own internship program called Practise School-II (PS II) which ensures internship to all students in their 4th year. This program is mandatory for all 4th-year students more than 150 companies came to the campus to offer internships with a very good stipend. The stipend was in the range of 10000/month to as high as 200000/month. The majority of companies offered IT/Finance roles and only a few companies came to offer core roles.
Placement Experience
BITS is known for its outstanding placements as it attracts all major recruiters including the FAANG companies for campus placements. Students become eligible from the starting of their 4th year to sit for placements. More than 200 companies visited the campus last year and more than 1000 offers were made. Almost 90% of eligible students were placed in the last placement season. The highest Package was 43lpa which was offered by Microsoft and the lowest package was 6lpa which was offered by Rao IIT. I am also planning to sit for placements next year.
Fees and Financial Aid
BITS is quite a costly institute to study as it takes approx 18 lakhs for a 4-year course. It hikes its fees every year by 5-7% due to inflation. However, it also offers Merit-Cum-Need scholarship if your annual income is less than 11 lpa which lessens the financial burden to some extent. A CG >6 can get you an assured scholarship under this scheme, you can also apply for TA'ship(Teacher Assistant) which pays a decent amount to cover your day-to-day expenses.
Campus Life
The annual fest of our college is called Oasis which is conducted in the month of Oct-Nov, it is a 5-day event that sees participation from colleges all over the country. Technical Fest is called APOGEE which is conducted in March every year. The institute also has a huge library with lakhs of books and every major journal is subscribed. Classrooms are equipped with all the needed amenities like air-conditioners, projectors, and recording equipment. Classrooms are well lit and all lectures are recorded which allows students to access all the lectures via in campus intranet. The campus also has a state-of-the-art sports infrastructure and there are more than 80 clubs that can allow students to pursue almost any hobby they want to.
