Remarks

It's a good college to attend, if you need a good break and some time to figure out what you want to do with your life. The life is very chilled out there, and working a lot gives you rewards at the end of the course. There are a lot of opportunities to be had, and the faculty is generally encouraging.

Entrance Preview

I took the CAT, scored a 96.7% and figured I only had 3 options - KJSIMSR, Nirma, and IMT Gaziabad. I chose the one which brought the promise of corporate exposure (which determines your confidence, language, and understanding of mid management business) - KJ Somaiya in Mumbai. KJ's median package is around 7 LPA. Range: 3 Lac - 14 Lac.

Course Curriculum Overview

3

Curriculum was very standard, as the college does not stress on academics. We were told to do as many projects, internships and jobs-on-the-side as possible to get a taste of how life is in the real world. The strong suit of the college is finance and marketing and there are good jobs to be had for both those streams.

Internships Opportunities

Yes, there are offers for internships ranging from literally peanuts (5 k for two months - 80 k for 2 months). It really depends on the brand that you can crack - bigger the brand, higher the stipend. My advice, chose with a role that you think will really help you to understand how corporate environments work.

Placement Experience

2.5

Very decent. Median package 7 LPA, range 3-14 LPA. Some foreign placements also happen. A few major banks come to campus but take only the absolute cream of the batch. Otherwise, most roles are available for marketing and sales profiles. Operations roles were close to zero, and there was some dearth of finance roles as well, with fin students settling for marketing jobs in banks.

College Events

3.5

The biggest annual event at the college was Nostalgia - a college fest for the alumni. Every month though, one or the other college event would happen that would be intra, or involving not more than 3-4 other colleges. KJ has no world class or even a national event involving colleges from different cities.

Fee Structure And Facilities

Incredibly cheap. In fact, that's half reason why some people choose to get their MBA at KJ. My entire MBA for two years including hostel + food was done at INR 7 Lac, which is a far cry from the 15-20 Lacs that other colleges charge in the same bracket.

Fees and Financial Aid

Nope. I did not avail for loan facilities as my father was willing to part with the money. There were a few students with loans (10-15% of the overall batch), who had jobs previously and weren't used to taking money from their parents. In today's world, for middle class parents, coughing up 7-8 lacs is not a big deal for a dude's MBA.

Campus Life

4.5

Campus life was limited to the friends you would make there. We had strict entry and exit times - 7 AM - 11 PM, which meant no partying outside the campus. Couples were encouraged to not be physical in the campus, and hugging was not allowed inside the college building. Gender diversity was bleak with a 70 M:30 F ratio, which is much better than engineering colleges across the country.

Alumni/Alumna

Only the seniors you know will be helpful to you. The alumni does not have a strong bond with the college, as the college does literally nothing to keep the alumni engaged. Most of them have forgotten their ties to college, as the college is not known in elite corporate circles.

Exam Structure

We had exams every 45 days with 6-7 subjects in every trimester of 4 months each. Every subject would appear for 4 months, and disappear after that, excluding advanced studies of a particular subjects. 1st year is general for everyone, and after the 2nd year you can choose a stream. Only one stream is allowed, so choose wisely.

Admission

I prepared for the CAT along with working as a copywriter. The preparation involved solving a lot of mock test papers obtained online or from the coaching institute I was attending. My first attempt at CAT was 90%, so I did not apply to any colleges and chose to work instead. The next year, I got a 96.5% and got through KJ based on a written grammar test, a group discussion and a personal interview, at the college.

Placement Experience:

During my time the first company that visited our organization was Naukri.com, and feel proud to say that i got placed in the same organization. I am very happy with my placement. But talking about my peers. Number of companies who visited to our institute was compared to low as per our expectations. Majority of the companies who visited the institute were sales based organizations. Very less companies for finance and HR field. This made a difficult call for students.

Placement Experience:

The placement scenerio at our caollege can be described as average overall. Most recruiting company belong to the banking and supply chain sectors. Marketing students generally have better placement opportunities, while finance and HR students do get job, though the package are not very high. Buswiness analytics has limited scope as very few companies visit the campus for the roles in that domain.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I did choose this course as I am genuinely interested in management and if it is healthcare management that makes me excited. There is a different teaching faculty for each and every subject. The faculties are highly qualified market professionals and experts who teach in an extremely interactive and practical way. They are very supportive. There was one exam conducted per semester which included projects and written exams.

No such bad remarks though. As the college is very superior and one can take admission with complete ease as the college faculty, staff, workers are very helpful and there motive is very clear and remarkable. This college surely helps students in grooming and enhancing skill to the top. I would definitely recommend this college to the upcoming students those who are planning to do MBA in order to achieve goals and learn quality skills.
