Still in developing situation

In MSc. In statistics by the University of Lucknow, the admission process is on a pure entrance basis. There are a total of 40 seats available in this program, there is an entrance exam of 2 hours having 100 questions without any negative marking, and one clears the exam and gets a seat in this program.

I want to mention that the University of Lucknow is the first university in India, successfully implemented all points of the new education policy. So the syllabus is very well designed in the year 2020, having lots of optional papers like data mining, official statistics, data analysis by STATA, etc. And one interdepartmental elective paper which emphasizes skill development. If we talk about faculty, this one may disappoint you as there are no great faculty. There are only 6 faculty members and 2 guest faculty which are not clearing the standard of good masters in statistics. The exam are on a semester basis and they were always on time except for pandemic situations. The exam was not difficult at all, there are a mix of subjective and objectives papers in odd and even semesters. The average score by average students in this course is nearly 75% which is good.

In this area, the university is lacking till now. There are no such opportunities provided by the University. If students want to go for internships they have to make efforts in various institutions on their own. Sometimes universities give the chance to visit local subject-related institutes but that is not enough. But In upcoming years University will surely improve this aspect also as from now Summer internship is part of the curriculum in all disciplines after the implementation of the new education policy.

There are no such big high rates of education, like institutes. In this program, the fees are about 15000 per year, and students having an annual income of less than 8 LPA may get as much scholarship as fees by the government of Uttar Pradesh. There are no on-campus jobs, the harsh reality.

Ther are Sanskriti board organization for students, which organize the cultural and academic programs over the year, when there are no pandemic situations. There are also music and various sports groups in university for the students. There is one central library at the University of Lucknow, named Tagore library which is one of the richest libraries in India. There are also a cyber library where you can access high-speed internet over thousands of computers, In every department, there is also one departmental library that can provide a student with all related journals and books regarding that particular subject. If we talk about the departmental library in the department of statistics, it has the second most number of resources in India if we compare Universities having statistics department.

Hostel life is very very very interesting. There are a total of 15 hostels on both old and new campuses. There is a central mess on the old campus for about 1000 students. Hostels are renovating this year so the infrastructure is quite good now. Registration of the hostel is at the time of admission. The hostel fees for a year are around 5000-7000 depending on the single-seater or double-seater room of the hostel. The quality of mess food is average, and the cost of mess is around 3000 per month.
