Remarks

The admission process was seamless. We had to give a design test alongside the NPAT exam for the first round. The selected candidates then appeared for the studio test and interview/portfolio round. The questions and discussions in the studio test and interview revolve around problem-solving, design thinking as well as technology awareness and interest of the individual. Basic skill sets such as the ability to communicate the idea presented are also evaluated in these rounds. The faculty and staff were very welcoming and introduced us to the course curriculum as well as the various facilities provided by the college from studios to labs to machinery.

Course Curriculum Overview

5

The course curriculum lives up to its title of being transdisciplinary. It covers a great spectrum of design practices with extreme attention to the process. Each student is given feedback and regular critique sessions are held with the faculty and peers. Since the class strength is limited, maximum attention is provided to all and thus, learning is accelerated. The teaching method is always hands-on so one gets to experience the process first hand. This is extremely helpful as it helps in capturing the essence of the activity or task at hand beyond the theory part of it. Faculty at NMIMS SOD are industry professionals that come with great experience and expertise in their particular fields and impart the knowledge and learnings. Overall, the teaching and structure are top-notch and deserve immense appreciation as they not only provide growth in terms of professional skill set but also help people grow as individuals on a personal level.

Internships Opportunities

5

I worked with Axis Bank- Freecharge for my 6 months internship as a Product Designer and designed end-to-end fintech products. The main project included the entire design process from research to the final delivery- research, ideation, conceptualization, wireframing, visual design, user testing as well as handover. This was a great learning experience for me to understand how designing end-to-end mobile interfaces functions. Working with various teams such as product, business, development was extremely insightful and informative as it helped me understand the sector in detail. I'm grateful to NMIMS SOD for all the learnings and experiences that I could put to use while working on live projects!

Placement Experience

5

The 4th year in college consists of a 6-month long credited industry internship. The companies that come for placements range over various sectors such as fintech, healthcare, e-commerce, edutech, design agencies, etc., and various job titles as per the role required. For my 6 months internship, I interned at Axis Bank- Freecharge as a Product Designer. It was a refreshing, insightful as well as motivating experience. Understanding and designing end-to-end fintech products gave me the opportunity to understand the industry practices is in design as well as fintech. The learnings from college helped me perform well and collaborate with various teams. NMIMS SOD aims at making individuals industry ready for when they step out, and I can confidently say that they have made that happen. Placements take place in the final year & include companies that give students a pre-placement offer based on their performance during the internship and new companies that come for final placements

Fees and Financial Aid

The fees structure is set per year and includes all facilities provided by the college. The fees is decently placed given the amount of effort that is put by the faculty and the quality of education being imparted.

Campus Life

5

NMIMS SOD has its own space where all the studios, as well as the labs, are located. The classrooms here are "studios" that promote collaborative work and enable individuals to explore and work better with their peers. The desks in each classroom are also studio-sized enabling ease of use and freedom while working on larger projects. Various activities are held by the college as well as the student council and since the curriculum itself is extremely interactive and filled with activities, it always keeps the energy and motivation levels up. Our labs include machines required for prototyping industrial products as well as a VR lab for immersive design. We also have a usability testing room that helps students conduct real-time user testing and gain industry-like experience within the premises. Other machinery includes rapid prototyping machines such as 3D printers alongside laser cutting and CNC machines.

Interview Experience

5

The studio test and interview were held on the same day. The studio test included a problem statement that needed to be solved and the solution to be sketched. This involved problem solving and sketching skills to portray the solution accurately to the examiner. The interview round which was right after the studio test included a discussion with the faculty members and a review session of our studio test. The interview also gave us the opportunity to present our portfolio that included previously done design, art, and technology-related projects that may be applicable to the field applied for. The latest technology trends, as well as certain basic principles, were design were also discussed during this round.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The creative assignments and learnings of how to think out of the box made me choose this course. The curriculum prepares us well and we learn how to move forward. but the real world is something which we learn only when we enter the field. The teaching methods can improve by introducing more practical engagements and field visits. Frequency of exams are not to much and exams are easy to clear.
