I took IIT JEE. I scored 296/480. It was near to my home, No interview. The college also has the reputation of being one of the best for studying electrical engineering.
Course Curriculum Overview
Course is awesome, There is lots of flexibility to choose many electives from various departments. Courses are light and exams test basic understanding of subject to it is very easy to pass. M.tech part requires doing a thesis which helps in getting in depth knowledge of subject.
Internships Opportunities
College doesn't. Students have to search for internships during summer or winter breaks through the placement office or on their own. Stipends generally hover around 20k per month but can be as high as 1 lakh per month (in India) or 10 lakh per month (in US or Europe).
Placement Experience
Placements are great and everybody who wants a job gets one. Some people go for IAS or higher studies. Around 250 students get placed on first day itself, in major investment banks and tech companies. Prospects for civil and mechanical are somewhat less but they do well at the end too.
College Events
4 main events - Antaragni, Techkriti, Udghosh and a film festival which keeps changing it's name every year. There are also many inter hall events, one of which, Galaxy is bigger than Techkriti and Udghosh. There is also Takneek which is technical fest between halls.
Fee Structure And Facilities
Because it is a government college fee is heavily subsidised and it cost me only about 35k per semester whereas private college with similar facilities would suck the fuck out of your pocket.
Fees and Financial Aid
Lots of scholarships by individual donors are provided, some of which are to the tune of 1 lakh by previous year pass outs of the college. Loan facilities are easy too as SBI has branch in campus and it gives loan very easily without much paperwork. Seniors also help in the process.
Exam Structure
8 semesters in total involving around 6 subjects every semester. Each course has 2 exams - midsem and endsem exam and many quizzes in between, depending on how many the professor wants to take. most exams are very easy and require going to only 1 or 2 classes.
Admission
There was a test held on 10 april 2011, only 4 days after India won the world cup and I was very excited. There were two papers and I scored good marks in both of them. There are no paper wise cutoffs. I got good rank and did counselling for IIT in which I got IIT Kanpur.
Faculty
Faculty is great and has degrees form best colleges in US and other countries. They also have a liberal mindset and are able to bond well with students. Classroom teaching encourages students to do self study and not come to class if they don't like it very much.
