Entrance Preview
I gave SET exam as an entrance. Symbiosis was the only design college I could opt for since all other college application deadlines were past. I decided very late that i wanted to get into design and not engineering or medicine. I don't remember my exact score but I topped the personal interview as well as the studio round.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum was available in the booklet given to us during admission as well it was available on the college website. The courses were very well defined, with each semester the bar being raised so that proper knowledge enhancement was done for the students. Each module had its own section for research. Infact there was a process to be followed for each subject. We were quite free to experiment with our designs.
Internships Opportunities
No, the college does not provide internships or job placements in general. The students handle them on their own.
Placement Experience
Even though the college did not provide us with placements, all of us were placed within 6 months of graduating. Some started their own companies and studios. Average salary being 4-6 lacs per annum in the starting with the highest package going up till 21 lacs per annum. Most of us joined design companies or product based companies like Sprinklr, Eye Netra, Future Design, HFI and more.
College Events
Mainly Ganesh chaturthi and Holi. But our college has its own fest called Fundamentals where we students do everything from scratch from getting sponsors to making installations to design each and every contest and more. There is a lot of learning during that period.
Fee Structure And Facilities
Fee structure is a bit on the expensive side since its a design college as well as a private one. Current fees are as below. Academic Fee : 3,25,000 Security Deposit (Refundable) : 15,000, Library Deposit (Refundable) : 5,000, Total : 3,45,000. SID fees increase by, upto 10% during the period of the programme.
Fees and Financial Aid
No scholarship is offered and I am unaware about the loan facility. Annual fee is generally payable in one instalment at the time of registration to the programme. However, for the convenience of the candidates the same could be accepted in two instalments on request.
Hostel Facilities
Hostels were really good. We had a variety of options to choose from. there were 3 sharing, 2 sharing and single occupancy rooms. with an option of AC. Each person was given a bed, table, cupboard and shelf, and every year a new mattress was provided. Mess was compulsory, but except for breakfast food was not so great. But hostel life was simply amazing, consisting of those typical fun times.
Exam Structure
It was morever chilled out as there were a few written papers and most of it was viva based or presentation based. Every mid sem and end sem we would have exams. Our exams felt more like tough tough tough job interviews as there were judges called from the industry to hold our jury.
Admission
I got the form online from the website. Gave the written entrance test in Ahmedabad. Once selected, I was called to Pune for a studio round where we are tested on our modelling skills. Once past that round is the personal interview round. If you clear that then you are in. So total of 3 rounds. For the entrance, results came out in 10 days. Then studio round results were declared the same day.
Faculty
The faculty was really friendly. They never treated us as kids or students. We were always treated as equals. Education was parted but with a lot of fun. Ofcourse there were a few faculty members that we as students disliked but that happens everywhere right.
