Took JEE Mains and scored 152/360. Scored 94% in CBSE 12th. Ranked 22767 by normalisation and combined result of both JEE Mains and 12th. I chose the Material Science and Metallurgical Engineering course due to my interest, although it was a low ranked branch and recently started in the college. The admission process was centralised for all NITs and went quite smoothly.

The Metallurgical Engineering and Material Science course structure at MANIT is more industry oriented, rather than being focused upon research. Most courses are outdated, and the electives are dependent upon faculty availability rather than by student's choice. Electives offered are Metal Forming Techniques, Physics of Materials, Entrepreneurship Development, Composite Materials etc.

Internships are provided, but very few companies visit the campus for interns. The Training cell is extremely ignorant. Reliance visited last year for my course and they offered a stipend of ₹ 25000. Most students search for internships on their own, and have secured good places.

Placement scenario is quite good, with most students getting placed at the end. In my course, almost everyone is placed in companies like BORL, Vedanta, Reliance, Escorts, EXL, AQ, iQuanti, Aakash Tutorials, TCS etc. The highest package offered was about ₹12 LPA in my course and ₹27 LPA (Amazon) in the college, with the average being ₹6 LPA.

There are two major fests. Maffick, the cultural festival, is organised in March and almost all colleges of central India take part, with thousands of students in a score of events conducted in a week. Techno search, the technical festival is organised in October, with similar participation as Maffick.

The fee structure is quite feasible, although it has been doubled twice in the last three years. I pay about ₹20000 each semester, with new students paying about ₹40000. Day-Scholar and Hosteler fees are different, with Hostel Mess fees being an additional 22000 per annum.

The college is eligible for interest free student loans from SBI. Scholarships are few and only for SC/ST on a merit-cum-means basis, provided by the MHRD. No scholarships exist at the college level.

Exams are conducted thrice in each semester, a surprise test in the second month (February/ August), followed by a mid term exam (March/October) and end term exams (April/November). They occupy very less of the student's time, taking up about 30 days in the whole semester. No weekly or routine tests are conducted.

The online application form for JEE 2013 was released around January and examination was conducted in both online and offline mode in April. After JEE Mains result in June with the release of a common merit list, centralised process for admission to all Centrally Funded Technical Institutes (CFTI), except IITs, was conducted in July.

The college's permanent faculty is mostly well qualified, with almost all faculty being either a doctorate or pursuing their PhD. Few of the faculty on contract basis are only Postgraduates. The courses are aligned with the faculty specialisations, so most of them are interested in teaching. However, number of lectures actually taken in semester are lower than the minimum requirement.
