Remarks
NIT Trichy is one of the best colleges in India for engineering. It performs way better than many IIT's and is at NIRF rank 9 in engineering for the past two years. I had cleared JEE Mains with AIR 10683 in the year 2020. Even though I gave my JEE Advance I couldn't get a mechanical engineering seat in top IIT's hence, I utilized my JEE Mains rank for joining NITT. Mechanical Engineering was in my mind and additionally due to home state quota I got the seat quite comfortably in the JOSAA counselling. While the pandemic affected all sectors, I feel many of my peers including myself lost interest in studying as exam dates were continuously delayed and extended. This was the reason I couldn't score enough in JEE Advance. I contacted a few seniors and various websites such as collegedunia.com and siksha.com for the reviews of NITT before JOSAA started. One of the most discussed thing on the internet was that sometimes few professors were not up to the mark. This made me think about my decision for sometime but I realized that self study is more important in college life. The alumni network of NITT is vast with some big names such as Mr. Natarajan Chandrasekaran, Mr. K.R. Sridhar, Mr. Palanivel Thiagarajan, etc. Moreover, the club culture in NITT is exceptional where we get to learn and reciprocate granting us excellent exposure. I can assure the quality of clubs since I'm a part of a few clubs myself and it was very interesting even though things were online. While its undeniable that IIT's are in the top, NITT is not far behind, and its definitely worth it if you had to choose between course and college.
Course Curriculum Overview
The curriculum is designed very well according to the current trends. Moreover, the mechanical department is one of the top-performing departments and the structure makes sure that students get benefitted during the placements. I wanted to take up aerospace engineering in the future hence, mechanical engineering is a very good and solid foundation for this journey. There are a total of 3585 UG students and 219 faculty. Among the faculties, 195 of them have Ph.D. degrees in their respective fields. The exams are not tough and it's convenient if you attended all the classes and are able to go along with the professor. However it must be noted that college emphasizes more on self-learning and hence, the teachers can support us only upto a certain extent.
Placement Experience
NITT is also known for its placement percentage among its B. Tech students. Various companies like Tata, Audi, BMW, Amazon, Google, etc, visit the campus and recruit skilled, deserving students. The department of training and placement takes care of all the communication between the institute and the companies.
Campus Life
I have never been to campus since the pandemic struck but I have heard that its convenient enough. The institute is huge and there are various amenities for a student to live. The classes are ventilated enough with few of them being able to turn into a smart class. The library is one of the largest in India which houses lakhs of books, journals, research papers, etc. The main fests are the Pragyaan, the technical fest, and Festember, the cultural fest of NITT. Both of them have a great reach and are very popular. However, there are lots of other fests such as Aaveg, NITFest and the department's respective symposiums. There is an Inter-NITT competition where various NIT's participate and prove themselves in various sport events. The silver lining here is that all of them are entirely run by students and the inductions happen every year for them. Apart from intra NITT clubs various other organizations like 180 DC, toastmasters international, etc are also present in the college.
Admission
I had to clear JEE mains in the year 2020 with a decent rank. I prepared for JEE mains for two years during my classes 11 and 12 where I primarily focused on math, physics, and chemistry up to the prescribed syllabus. The pattern is objective with negative marking in online mode hence, I had to practice with my laptop according to the prescribed syllabus in the exact time of 3 hours.
