Remarks
My first preference was CLC, Faculty of Law, University of Delhi. I had to appear for the DU LLB entrance exam in which I scored 173 out of 400, which got me 37th rank in the ST quota. There's no age limit to pursue law, and one needs to qualify for the entrance, the cut-off of which depends on the quota a person belongs to. In the first list, the General cut was 228; EWS 210; SC 164; ST 136, and OBC 183. Since the whole admission process was online due to the pandemic, there was no offline counseling which made the process less lengthy and more convenient. They only asked for basic documents like tribe, migration, provisional degree if the original degree is yet to be issued. I also had to fill in my 10th, 12th, and Bachelor's percentages. The faculty members were very considerate as they gave us an ample amount of time to gather our documents and submit them on the portal- this was done through filling an undertaking form that renders us more time.
Course Curriculum Overview
Law is not only considered as an elite vocation but also enables an individual to not only be an upstanding citizen but be the protector and advocate of the poor and aggrieved. The faculty is prestigious since its establishment due to the excellent quality of education provided and the excellent alumni who have contributed immensely not to the judiciary but also to the country as a whole. There are three centres in the faculty-CLC, LC1 and LC2. There are not many distinctions between the centres except for the timings of the classes. Every batch has about 2000-3000 students who get distributed equally among the centres. They are then divided into sections, and the strength of the class comes close to 100. So far, I have completed only 2 semesters, and paper wise, the questions are harder than the previous years. Maybe because it's OBE right now but it's not easy to analyze the paper and work out the answers without having your own understanding of the paper so I think that's a bonus.
Placement Experience
I think law students have many paths they can take after the completion of the course. They are eligible for campus placements in their final year, and as I have not been around my batchmates or seniors offline, I have no clue of the highest or average package students has received but I think the law is not only limited to court work. Not only can they go the conventional way and become advocates, but they can go civil, corporate, arbitration, international, bank, litigation and many others. If a person has the interest, he can actually do anything he likes with the degree. Personally, I have plans to study abroad for my LL.M in International law and I cannot be more excited about my future prospect. Sky is the limit.
Fees and Financial Aid
Since it's a Government University, the fee is affordable even to the poorest. I think this is also one of the pros of this faculty. Not only does it provide decent education but also accommodates students of every class. There are several internal and external scholarships schemes that students can avail themselves, in case of fund shortage. The total fee per year is about 7k which is cheap as compared to other private law universities. There's a placement cell that provides students with opportunities in the final year.
Campus Life
Since I'm a pandemic batch, I have yet to visit the campus. But so far, they have provided us with access to e-library and other societies. It is rather unfortunate but the campus looks promising, so does the library. I've heard great things about the Faculty and I am excited for the University to start conducting classes offline.
